URGENT!! STRONG smell of gas from engine bay area!!

My 1998 CAMRY V6 is giving me some trouble. I have a very strong smell of gasoline (raw smell) coming from the left side of the engine bay (when looking at the engine standing on the front) It started all of a sudden this evening when I started the car a went for a 3 mile round trip. Since it is dark outside I cannot visually inspect it. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have to go to college tomorrow and I need to get this car fixed ASAP..TIA

could be a leaking o-ring on the injector, its gotta be somewhere on that fuel rail if its on the left side of the engine. anyway take of the v-bank cover off before you drive and carry a fire extinguisher in the car. just in case. then pray that its not a big leak that will ignite while driving on the highway.

thanks for the response.......I wouldn't dare drive the car anywhere but to the mechanic. It is so strong that even after 20 minutes or maybe 30....if I go by the car....I can catch the whiff of the gas vapors.....Would it be expensive to repair if it was the O-ring around the injectors that went bad? You see I don't have much money at the moment

well you have to take the plenum off to get to the injectors. so I don't know how long it would take someone else I can do it in under an hour but I've done it alot.hopefully its your imagination . also can be an intake gasket leak or even a plenum gasket leak. which are double stamped steel. How many miles are on the car?

I don't know if a '98 is the same, but my '92's fuel filter is on the driver's side of the engine bay. That could be leaking under pressure.

Cars got a 190xxx miles........I can smell the gas inside the car as well, I am assuming it is the fuel filter clogged up since it is underneath the rear passenger seats. Anyhow, I am seeing a mechanic today, lets see what happens
