4th Generation IS300 Rims fitment question

I knoe there has already been threads about fitting 17" IS300 rims on a 4th gen, but all ive been able to find are fitment guides for 3rd gens.

What size spacers would i need (if any) to make them fit my 98 Cam? I am aware that the recommended tire size is a 215/45R18, but would i be able to fit them on a set of 225/40R17 tires or would there be rubbing issues?

I would assume the gen 3 and gen 4 would use the same spacers. Maybe someone else can verify this.

225 tires MIGHT fit. It all depends on the tire. Its like shoes, 2 different tires can be rated the same size, but might be different sizes. I know my 215 have very few space left to spare for a wider tire. That said i got a free set of 225/45ZR17 tires, so they will be my next set of tires. Hopefully they will fit.

Also I wouldnt go below a 45 tire. 40 is very low, too low IMO. The ride will be less smooth and you have a higher chance of denting the rim over a pothole or dip in the road.

most shops atleast around here wont install spacers b/c its a liability... so you might have to find a shop that will do it for you...

run the correct tire size that is the closest to OEM (try the Miata Tire Calc or TireRack if you dont know what size that is) ... the fitment issue is more with caliper clearance if i recall

it was fixed with 5mm spacers, which arent much at all - so it shouldnt be too much of a hassle even on a gen 4

If you just took the IS300 rims off of an IS300 and swapped em onto your 98, there would be no spacers or anything needed. You can add spacers and what not, but there are no rubbing issues.

I was running 17x7.5 +40mm offset rims with 225 width tires, and i also had no rubbing issues.
But i forgot the offset of the is300 rims.
Just a suggestion, stick with the OEM tire size.
