3rd Generation HELP determine the problem.. gen 3.5 camry

hello, i have a gen 3.5 camry and have a problem. everytime i use my brake i can hear a knocking sound coming from the rear. it's like knocking on hollow metal?.. it's annoying and really embarrassing. anyone have these problem before? help me out.. thanks you..

I have the same problem now but it comes and goes and it happened the minute I changed the brake shoes in the rear. I dont know what to do either...

I have drum brakes in the rear... the noise im hearing is not something a disc brake would do...

double check your brakes in the back is all i can say. i dont really know too much about drum, i'm a disc man really. make sure something didnt come close and just go over it all. good luck = /

as par experience the only things ive had that cause noise in the rear are:

scratch guards on the breaks (if the pads were low)
struts *(b/c my struts are shot as hell atm :/)*
and road noise b/c the entire trunk bay is stripped w/nothing in it... :/

I had the same problem with my '95.
A knocking sound from the rear whenever you step on the brake.
Took me forever to figure out what it was. It turned out that my r/r lower control arm bushing was worn out and my tire was walking back and forth, but it didn't cause any odd tire wear, cause the tire was free to wander. When I checked it the tire deflected about 1/4" in either direction. I replaced the r/r lower control arm, and it has not made a noise since.

This is the part.


You can check this by jacking up the rear end, and wiggling the tire from side to side.
There should be ZERO play.
