Stereo please help X_X

so i bought a new sony cdx-GT52W for my 96 gen 3. I popped off the side thingy and unscrewd the bracket, took out the OEM stereo, and removed the wires.

Ok, so were all good now right??

Wrong.

Obviously the plugs dont match up, but they gave me a set of new wires, cept i think you have to splice them on, but it seems the old plugs have more wires than the new ones.

i'm really lost and might have to end up paying for an installation, but i'd really like to avoid the costs if possible. The instructions in the box suck nuts. If you guys have any ideas or anything you guys did when you installed your aftermarket ones please let me know.

So frustrated!!

Thanks guys

edit::
fyi i checked DIY and i searched the forums, but if theres something that i missed, feel free to point me in that direction, thanks.

you probably have a factory amp. if you only had 1 plug to take out of the radio, you have an amp. if you had 2 plugs to remove from the radio, then there is no amp.

if you have an amp (1 plug) follow it down to the amp, and the 2 plugs you need are plugged into that amp.

I was a little confused for a few minutes when I removed the stock radio from my 99 4runner, but quickly discovered the amp, and the 2 plugs I needed to complete the install.

hopefully, the harness they gave you at the store is the one that gets wired to your aftermarket radio wires, then its just plug and play.

and the cd players out theses days should throw out more wattage than the stock amp, so don't worry about trying to go through the stock amp as well, its not going to do anything for you.

hope that was helpful

well, the easiest thing you can try now, is to take the wiring you got from the store and see if the stock plugs fit into them. If they do, then you just need to match up the colors, and what I like to use are heat shrink butt connectors, you can buy them at walmart. you also need a wire crimper to crimp the butt connector when the wire is inserted. after its crimped, just heat the connector with a lighter and it shrinks to the size of the wiring you inserted, and it has glue in it too so it will NOT come apart.

BUT if you have never done wiring, you might want to get some help from someone in person. radios are pretty basic, but if you have never wired anything before, it can look like a real hack-job, and possibly cause either the radio to get wrecked (wired touching together accidentally) OR possibly even a fire if its a real bad install.

I have had 98 different cars since 16, and I have seen some real hack-job installs.

the cool thing about the camry (and my 4runner) is that the stock mounting brackets that are attached to the stock radio, can just be fastened to your new radio, via the provided screws that came with the new radio.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Toyota-Celica-Ca...QQcmdZViewItem + Harness that CAME with radio, and solder or crimp them together. There will be extra wires, just tape the ends.

sorry for the confusion, I thought you bought the wiring to hook up to the car, but you meant that you tried to plug the stock plugs into your new radio.

You will need a kit like the one in the link above, you can also get them at walmart for like $7 , that is where I bought mine from.

also as mentioned, you will have a wire or 2 extra after you match the wires by color, and make sure they get taped up really well so they won't touch and metal and short out the radio.

doing it this way will allow you to go back to stock later if you sell the car, if you hard-wire it in (cutting the plug ends off and connnecting it that way ) it will be much harder to know what wires go where, since they do not follow the uniform color code on the after market units.

buy a kit, it will save you many headaches!

Gen 3 uses the same one as the Gen 4. Almost all Toyota's from that time use the same harness.
