Rear Thump one more time! 95 Camry

I have taken pics of my rear suspension. I suspect the thump is coming from the Strut rod, being bushings are shot, just because the thump I hera and feel is like coming from the body of the car...like in the trunk, underside of the body.....

Help me out, I have read replacing the sway bar bushings did the trick, but looking at the parts list, there is nothing called sway bars...

Please point out [/IMG]the obvious to me...

Thanks.

jack the back of the car up so the rear wheels are hanging down. grab the each tyre at 3 and 9 o'clock and push/pull to see if there's excessive play. check the lateral rod bushings in particular. that was the problem with my last gen3.

I have the same problem....Every time my car goes over a hold on the road, I heard a noise on the rear. the way you test if your rear shock was the problem... hold your hand and press down and let it go. You should see bounce 1-3 then stop. if you see more than 3, your rear shock needs replace.

I don't think your rear shock was the problem... your bushings are the problem...

the bushings are the black rubber on the rear under the car connect (clamp) with the long swap bar across on both your wheels.

I got both bushings on my 96 toyota camry Le 4 cylinder for 30 bucks from the dealer.... Call dealer and check the price...I think your car should be cheaper than mine because your car is an older model. Replace each bushing at a time and look at the old versus the new as far the installation orientation.

After I replaced rear bushings, the noise went away. Go for the easy first before spend $ on rear shocks that weren't the problem.

Thanks a lot guys. Replacement is as easy as unbolt, dis-mount and mount new bushings? Obviously while the car is jacked up.

However, I will try the 3 and 9 o'clock check. Maybe I can actually hear the thump. Mike Gerber recommended this....

Thanks again!

One more ? When I replace these bushings, I do not need to re-align right?
