Front end vibration solution
We bought a 92 Camry LE, 4 cylinder about 5 months ago. Thanks to the great info here, we have managed to repair a bunch of stuff. However, we had a persistent vibration in the front end, between 40 and 50 mph. After checking everything we could think of, we finally gave up and chalked it up to "just the way the gen 3 camry is." While changing the brake pads last week, I noticed that the drivers side outer cv boot was torn, so I got an axle and asked my dear husband to change it for me (NO WAY am I strong enough for that job!) When he started working on the axle, he noticed a LOT of play in the inner cv joint, and discovered that all of the needle bearings were missing from one of the roller bearings on the tripod bearing assembly. He changed the axle, and voila! No more vibration in the front end.
I hope this info will help others with front end vibration like ours. There was no apparent problem by visual inspection, the inner boot was in perfect condition. The joint was not making any noise that I could hear.
