Engine Start Button

i was at a pep boys looking for some red colored bulb covers when i came across an engine start button kit on sale for $30.00. there are many advantages to engine starts not only for the coolness factor, but also reduces unnecessary and prolonged cranking of the ignition. while the kit comes with the red Engine Start button, it also comes with an addition on/off switch to activate the start button. i know this does reduce the coolness factor, having to flip the switch on and then hit the button (i read several sites and understand the reasons for it), nevertheless it still is cool. i asked the service techs for an estimate in which the person had no idea what the hell i was talking about, but told me it would be $105 per hour. i'm not much of a mechanic/electronic person, but the total time and labor should not take more than an hour, unless they decide to take their lunch while working on my car.

i read an article online about how someone took the engine start button/kit from a honda s2000 and swapped it in their car. does anyone have experience about this matter?

if i were you id try to learn how to install it your self. a shop will charge out the ass to do t. but if your gonna take it to a shop then makes it a speaker/alarm shop. thoes guys will do it right...or are supposed to. me personally, i think engine star is cool when ya dont have to use the key in the ignition. when ya do it just adds a step to the starting process and depending on the kit, the kit will crank a certin number of times and if the car doesnt start then you have to push it again. if it doesnt do that then ya have to hold it in till it starts and you could have done that with your key.

but the red button is cool

Pass on the starter button. Yeah, the idea is cool, but if you don't have smart key technology in your car, what good is a starter button if you still have to put a key in the ignition, and turn it to the "ON" position? On top of that, where would you mount the button? Right next to the ignition switch? If your answer is "yes"
that would be retarded, George W. retarded.

Eh, do what you want, it's your car. It is a nice idea, but in a gen3/3.5? Whatever.

My wrist is so brittle, and weak that I can't hold the key in the "Start" position until the engine kicks over.
