Replacing gaskets, things to watch out for?

Okay, I have the 93 gen 3 Camry with what I thought was the cold start injector problem, see thread here Cold Start Injector?

While I still haven't figured out why the car is not starting properly. I checked the open circut relay and it seems to be fine. So the starting issue has me stumped something fierce. So, putting that aside for now, I have decided to replace all the gaskets that I can, valve, intake, distributor etc, etc, etc... I need to know if there are any pitfalls or traps to be wary off. I know that I will need some RTV. Is there a better one to buy? Can I just use regular blue RTV or should I get some black RTV? Should I get the really expensive stuff from the dealer? I bought a gasket set that includes everything from the head gaskets up. I don't think that I am gonna go that far, but you never know I plan on doing this over the next couple of days.

TIA
Ken

Get the Permatex Black RTV, I used that on various vehicles including my Camry. The sealant held up very well when changing out gaskets. Just don't overapply the stuff or you got a real mess of RTV oozing inside and out of the parts you're putting back together. RTV sealants take 24 hours to cure so don't try to fire up the engine or you might ruin the sealant you've just applied.

Read the sealant label and satisfy yourself that it OK to use with O2 sensors. Some of these allow silicone to mix into the engine oil which in turn gets transported to the exhaust and then clogs up the O2 sensor.
