Hey guys, tried searching this up but didn't come across anyone with my specific problem. When I start my camry, it'll idle really low. Almost to the point where it's going to turn off. Then if I give it some gas, there's this LOUD screech that won't let up as long as I have my foot on the gas. Eventually it goes away, but it still bugs me.
Same with my a/c. When I turn it on, it'll squeel for a few seconds. Or if I'm stopped at a light with the a/c on, when I take off, it's just screeching till I turn it off. Once I turn it on again, it ok... till the next stop :/
Btw, my Camry's an I4 with 164xxx miles on it. Any info would be really appreciated. Thanks guys.

The Camry is a car that I can rip out someone's pride, stab it, beat it, and completely bash their egos, and it's so ridiculous that the person comes back with a hysterical laugh... ROFL They got trainlengthed by a Camry that in their mind, was a 18 sec car.

My A/C does the same thing when I turn it on. I have no idea what causes all the squeeling. But that shit sure is embarassing.

loose belts often cause this, thats why the first reply mentioned them - simple tensioning is often an easy and proper fix, but sometimes you might have to make some replacements

I have the exact same problem. Replace the belt (the bigger one that connect to the alternator, not the powe stearing one) and no more screetching at all. Try adjusting the belt by tightening that tension adjustment screw on the alternator and see if it helps...if not, you may need to replace it.

All of them? Or is there one I should check specifically? No, I haven't checked any. What should I look for?
all... loose, crack, damages, etc..

There are two belts. The serpentine belt runs the AC compressor. It's the most visible one. It's adjusted by moving the alternator via a jackscrew. There are a couple of mounting bolts that need to be loosened first, tho.
The second belt runs only the power steering pump, which is driven off the crankshaft pulley. To adjust its tension, you need to remove the passenger-side front wheel and then remove a plastic access cover in the wheel well to reach the adjusting bolt. There are two bolts holding the pump bracket, one pivot bolt and one that rides in a curved slot (no jackscrew). Loosen those two and with a pry bar pivot the pump to apply more belt tension. And, of course, retighten the screws when you're done.
That's how my two Toyotas are, anyways.
