5sfe and 4afe

Hey all, been a little while since I posted but I know this is a great place for information.

Alright, I have a 94 Camry 5SFE Auto, love the car for the most part, it's great. I hear the best upgrade you can really do for your car is switch to a manual transmission, and although I haven't yet driven a stick shift Camry, I agree that it's really fun.

So I was browsing Craigslist, and found a decent deal on a 91 Celica transmission with a brand new clutch from a 4AFE engine. I'm kind of having trouble finding specs on that, but is there some off chance that things between the 4AFE and the 5SFE would be interchangeable, say, a transmission?

Or are they completely and totally different?

Thanks very much.

im guessing this is a 5spd?

either way, i know they dont work with the 3S-FE's from the 5th gen celica - different bolt patterns i believe, and of course the half-shafts are no good ... so im assuming it wouldnt work on a 5S-FE either sry

Alright thanks for that.

Are there a couple manual transmissions that would work with the 5SFE, or is there just one that will work for me? So I know what to look for? Thanks very much.

the 4cyl gen 3 manual tranny will work, the V6 tranny will work with mods i believe - the 5S-FE tranny from the 5th/6th gen celica will work - i think the 1st gen solara as well ...

i think the easiest to find are the E153's and the S54's (? i think thats the name)

OK .
NOW i have been looking at a lot of car forums about the good old 4afe MOTOR and a lot of guys just have one question CAN U USE A SC14 SUPERCHARGER ON A 4AFE ENGINE?? well can you, the answer to all you questions is oh yes you can, i own a 94 holden nova its actually a rebadged corolla 4 door sedan it has a 4afe in it and when i first brought it it was very much the granny car but no more ok lets get started. if you dont want to spend the dollars on this little gem of a engine then u dont need to, to unlock some secrets of this perky little motor, air and fuel and exhaust they love lots of air to the intake get rid of the stupid air box under the left front guard make a cold air intake to the front of the car so much better next you need to tap the fuel pressure regulator up this is found on the injector rail looks like a mushroom i guess what u do is put a fuel pressure gage on the fuel filter then tap very lightly on the regulator the mushroom till the pressure gauge say 55psi then LEAVE IT no more, extractors and 2 2/4" system do not go 4into 1 get your self a 2 into 2 then one system much better performance through out the gears this way, now after you have achieved this you need to slightly advance your timing why you ask well the answer is at the bowser 98 % octane or as i do avgas but its not cheap by advancing your timing your engine wont ping and carry on after the psi bump up on the fuel rail, ok now these small changes will give the 4afe a incedabule power gain i drove my car around for a year just with these mod and done in two gear boxes opps lol but serious power gain to about 20%-30 % i believe now we have all heard about the goodness of the sc14 supercharger u can get them for around $450 in australia dont know about over seas but they are great they pump about 9-16 psi depending if you change the pulley size i kept mine standard i have adapted to under the alternator and ran it off the crank pully that had a spare spot to run it as a result OMG ITS A MONSTER THE LITTE GRANNY CAR IS NOW A WRX KILLER all the subaru and skyline boys just cant work it out lol i love it now you dont need to change the computer att all if you are pumping 6-9 psi into the engine the ecu will handle that ok but you MUST RUN A BLOW OFF VALVE other wise koobomm so do it it will be much safer if you want to pump more you will need to change the ecu to a aftermarket job or a piggyback ecu will work as well but for street this is more than you need for this little motor if you are going to use one of these little supercharges its a good idea to up you clutch and internals in the gearbox i have use a 2nd stage clutch setup from the states you can get them off ebay for $450 = 60 freight i also have used heavy dutie selectors bearings and beefed up the brakes to tercel 4wd calipers and discs it still has the original wheels and caps and looks like a granny car sleeper the only other thing you need to do is get a 3 core radiator made up and fill the other halh with a intercooler so it all sits under the hood and unseen by all those boy racers that mum and dad have brought them a nice new skyline that just pulled up beside you at the lights WITH P PLATES i always give-'em the rubber band flick BY BYE....LOL any questions you have i am very happy to answer them for you good luck oh if you want a pic i can do that too 4afe+sc14=skyline killer oh i have lowered her down to one inch all round too for handling reasons
