4th Generation question about coldstarts???

Just curious because i have read some conflicting articles. Is it ok to start on a cold start and just start driving like normal or would it be better to let the car warm itself up before starting to drive? random question, thanks for any input!!!

Definitely don't push your car hard when it is cold.

What I do is I let it warm up a little, then I drive it while pussy-footing it until it gets to operating temperature.

I agree- when I had my '98, I would start it, let it warm-up for about 20 seconds, and then drive it gently until it was fully warmed up.

Your chief concern here is getting the engine up to operating temperature, and this is done faster while driving that while idling. And obviously, as others have stated, take it easy until everything is hot. No bouncing off the rev limiter while backing out of your driveway.

It's a good question and the answer depends on your car's condition but I agree with the other posts: take it easy on a cold start.

A friend of mine who was a Honda mechanic actually had an older Accord in his shop one time that had cold start damage. The lady who owned it started it and drove off one frigid winter morning without any real warm up. Result? The engine spun a bearing. The oil was too cold to deal with the stress of the revs.

I actually let my car's computer do the deciding for me. I know when the engine is at 1400 or 1500 revs that the engine is cold and as it comes down to about 1100, I can start off gently.

I usually just start it up and drive it softly until the revs drop back down. Just don't do this:
