Intake Q's

Im planning on making an intake pipe for my 94 5sfe, and had a question about tube diameter (i'm planning on making it out of exhaust tubing)

Is there any advantage to having larger tubing, since the throttle body size cannot be changed? I think the throttle body is 2.25" or something like that, so would there be any advantage to making a 3" intake pipe, or will a 2.25" do just the same?

The intake is 2 1/2 inches. I use 3 inch tubes. I guess the bigger, more air can go through.

3 inch is the standard, may be better for the audiable effect of the intake but no differance in performance. especially since there isnt any differance with just an intake anyways.

the best "performance" option would be to go with the same size as the throttle body opening, since you cant really do much about size with the limited space/technology you have - but you wont notice performance gains with an intake on these cars

so, size doesnt matter for the intake - just dont go smaller than stock

I know for my 95 1mz-fe I had to use 3 in tubing. Since the MAF is a 3 in opening. Idk why they did that since the tb isnt that size.

BTW 3 in exhaust tubing is completely different then 3 in pvc tubing. The OD on pvc tubing is a lot bigger. So you either need to get connectors at a autostore ( i like pepboys since they r huge). Or you have to cut up the pvc connectors, to shrink the size.

why use exhaust piping when you can use IC piping?

if your going to use that course metal as the tubing you should look and see if anyone can Teflon coat it for you. it will seriously increase the speed air is taken in at and more than likely it will improve gas millage

*as soon as i have the cash $75, im going to a semi local shop whos going to bore out my throttle body replace the valve and teflon coat it ; then its time to redo the intake tract.*

teflon, like on a frying pan? im almost sure it will cost more than that to bore anything get a new valve and do anything with teflon. plus aluminized tubing is pretty smooth. ill spray some cooking oil on it too.

Maybe teflon coat the cylinders, no need for oil?

1) 3 or 4 cans of Pam non-stick cooking spray (preferably the olive oil variety)
2) 1 100 count package of Mr Coffee coffee filters
3) 1 hour's time (mostly spent emptying the cans of Pam)

End result: one slick intake (change filter after each drive :P)

THAT is a great idea. Just rubber band a single coffee filter over the stock intake pipe, and change each drive. Maybe the pam could act like nitrous (burning the oil and the aresol (double bonus)) and lubricating. Increased intake speed, and HP boost, probably 65 hp from the aerasol alone, not counting olive oil, which is probably another 30hp.

Total power increase - around 100 hp
Cost - $6 (although the price of pam is going up)
