Curious

I was just wondering, what did Toyota do to the cooling system after they stopped producing the 3VZFE V-6 (I think '93 was the last year)? Did they go to electric fans? If so, is there a way to adapt a later model fan/shroud onto a '93 3VZFE? The hydraulic fan is a bad joke and should have been recalled and changed over to electric, if you ask me. Maybe they wouldn't have had so much trouble with head gaskets if they would have done that.

Any ideas if this could be done?

I'm not too familiar with the V6's, but I've heard a few people adapting an aftermarket electric fan, and removing the stock fan blade assembly. Look into a Flex-A-Lite dual fan setup.

Check this out...

Um, the fans had NOTHING to do with people blowing the head gaskets.......I don;t know what would posess you to even think that. A fan is a fan is a fan, as long as it goes on, it does the job for that our cars need.

Now to ansrew your question, the 94 and I think 95 1MZ's had the same setup. My '96 1MZ has eletric. King (Eye8Pussies) a couple months ago swapped to an eletric SlimLine fan (SO much more room) on his '94 1MZ. Yes it can be done. I think the biggest issue he had was redoing the hydrolic hoses on the car, which I think would be the biggest issue with you as well on the 3VZ.

Well, yeah, I know that the head gasket thing was a combination of gasket material and the incompatibility of aluminum and cast iron. But I had to wonder out loud if, like mine, the hydro fans may have also contributed.

I know that there are aftermarket fans that can be used, but I guess what I was really wondering is if a setup like yours could be made to fit on one like mine. It would seem that the hydro lines could just be looped back to the pump, but then there's the issue of temp sensor, a/c sensor, etc.... May not be worth the trouble.

I guess frustration and aggravation have just made me question Toyota's idea of even making a freak of a fan like this in the first place. Oh well, I'll just have to deal with it! Thanks for the reply!

It would be cheaper and better IMO to just go aftermarket fans. It would also make more room int he engine bay is what would be best.
