So I have a 1999 Camry, and for my job and personal protection I want to mount a single or double sized pistol safe in my cars trunk. I want to be able to leave my weapons in a more secure location than just in the glove box or center con. etc. By placing it in the trunk and my security system set in a special way the trunk is not able to be opened by any one other than me. This helps me keep my weapons and ammunition safe when I must go into CPZ's (gun free zone = criminal protection zone). Pictures, thoughts, ideas, positive input appreciated. I favor on the ceiling of the trunk compartment facing rear or the sides facing up. I don't want to mount on the bottom of the trunk because it will interfere with cargo space etc.

Note any and all firearms discussion or discussion of law by any and all persons in the thread cannot be used for legal advise to others. You are responible as adult individuals to understand your national and state laws on your own judgements.

man, can i ask why you want to mount a pistol in the car.
punk civics givin you trouble? gonna take a few of them out lol
think we all would greatly appreciate that.

some cars like the roush mustang have a little velcro patch that folds down and contains a few tools like wrenches, sockets, etc.

you could attach one of those to the top of the trunk.

so he asks a cop about putting a pistol in the car?
isnt it illegal to put on in there anyway unless you have a permit for it?

Per most state laws unless you have a concealed weapon permit and are in the vehicle with the weapon in a holster on your person it is illegal to carry a loaded firearm in the passenger compartment. And when I leave the vehicle it needs to be as locked up and secure as possible when I must leave the weapon(s) in the car IE the ignorance of gun free zones and all that fun stuff.

Having a lock able fire arm safe in the trunk provides many wanted aspets of safety interms of less visable, harder for bad people to get at while readily available to me etc.

Sorry for asking a odd question of civillians, especially those that may not be familiar with fire arms laws. Thanks anyways all.

To the best of my knowledge you cannot have ammuntion indirect contact (loaded into) with a weapon. You must usually hae them outside of the passenger compartment and have some degree of "unloaded" to the ammo and weapon relation. This varies from state to state.

Like my last post says, in most states it is a felony to carry a weapon in general let alone a loaded weapon in the passenger compartment unless you have a concealed weapon permit and the weapon is in a holster on your person and you do not make any attempt to touch it while in the process of have contact with a law enforcement agent and you must notify them of your status.

In some states there may be clauses in the firearms laws that allow you to "open carry" so long as the weapon is "in plain sight". All of this is way to complicated to explain to those that are not educated in such material.

Again thank you all but there need not be any more posts. Poor question to ask of those whom may not know the law etc etc. No offense but thanks again all. And I must state that None of what I say should ever be though of as legal advice to anything. As adults and individuals you are responsible for your knowledge and understanding of laws that apply to you and you are ultimately responsible for your own actions.

I wish I knew what your OP was. If I were you, I'd mount the safe on the bottom side of the rear deck with the opening facing the rear of the vehicle. This would make it easy to get to in a pinch because it's less likely to have stuff on top of it.

The trunk lid could be a good idea but somehow seems less secure than a non-moving part of the vehicle.

I will state that I am not that familiar with gun laws having never held one aside from a brief period in the Marines. But that's a different situation since I had a semi-auto rifles and light machine guns.

Living in California...I think it's near impossible for me to get a CCW. I was looking at a site that looked like the eBay of firearms and most of them said will not ship to California. I would have loved to get my hands on that G3. It does seem like I can do unloaded open carry but that just seems like a bad idea in most situations (due to people's ignorance).

Touringcamry: My OP was merely asking where and what method people had used to mount safes themselves or similar objects and to provide photos and how to's if they coluld. And mounting to the decklid or sides was what I was thinking about doing, I'd know where it is but it would be harder for poeople who don't know to see / find.

And you sir are correct that because of your law officials in California, it is EXTREMELY difficult to get a CCW permit / CHL. Start writing your officials and getting people organised to get new people in office and change your laws. Everyone has the right to self defense. Look up the book, "More guns, Less Crime." Study NRA stats and look up all the info and educate yourself. Gun free zones don't work at all. Think about it, thats where all the mass murder shootings have happened. Public Universities, churches, etc.

It is legal to open carry loaded handguns in Ohio as well as loaded concealed weapons ONLY IF YOU HAVE A CCW / CHL recognised by Ohio goverment. In vehicles you cannot have a weapon in the passenger compartment unless you have a CCW / CHL that is recognised by ohio and the weapon is in a holster on your person, or locked in a glove compart or center console or in a lockable box in plain sight.

Because of the language of our laws even if the weapon is in plain sight, the vehicle "conceals" it so it is considered a concealed weapon and if pulled over by a L.E.O. and not in compliance with law, you will be arrested at gunpoint and found guilty of a felony of the 5th degree. If you are "open carrying" on a motor cycle with out a CCW / CHL guess what... you are going to jail for carrying a concealed firearm with out permission. Thats the way the Ohio laws are written and interpreted.

I guess I'll put my OP back and leave this thread alive. Thanks all for your input. As usual you must educate yourself on laws, these are only my understandings that you cannot use for legal purposes of your own.

Google came up with this, but it looks more like a rifle/shotgun sort of thing than a handgun:
