3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I got my Gen 3.5 Camry Coupe in Rally Red and sadly, the paint job is fading on it due to lack of care by the previous owner. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get a paint job in the SF Bay Area. I would go to MAACO, but I've heard horror stories about how paint jobs have come out. Anyways, thanks in advance!
as far as macco goes, around here they do really crappy prep work. their pait jobs rnt that bad but they skimp on the priming and sanding since that take the most labor. so i ya have the time then doing ALL of the prep work your self then having them paint it sint such a bad idea. but most dont have the time or know how to properly prep a car for paint.

If I had the time to do the prep work, I would just go ahead and repaint the car myself but being a full-time student does not allow me that luxury sadly. I might start looking at body shops in my area to see what estimate they can give me. Hoping for it not to be too expensive! My engine still needs work!

If you're willing to travel as far as San Jose, there's Pro Autobody. They repainted part of my vette's front bumper to repair various scuff marks and color matched the metallic orange perfectly.
Otherwise, you've got Auto Perfectionist's up in Fairfield. One-man operation. Does the best work around.
But if you're a broke-ass student like most of the Camry owners around here, keep in mind that body work is not cheap unless you get your insurance to cover it at the expense of your premium. A GOOD full paint job costs in excess of 6 grand at least.

I would be one of those broke-ass students! I never knew a paint job was so much though! I actually don't cover mechanical on my camry with my insurance(even though i probably should, it being a rare car and all) We'll see what it comes out to though. The paint itself is in actually decent condition, and I've fixed what I can but I just think the car would look good with a new clearcoat job and some detailing done to it. I'll post here what the quote comes out to for Pro Autobody though. That is, after I see how many digits that number is!
