3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Alright, the car is a 1993 ES300/Camry V6. After starting, you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it going. If you let off, it dies. I was able to drive it(stick shift) amazingly till I got home. Then it would stay on and not die. What could be wrong? I think it may be a IACV, EGR, Coolant Temperature Sensor. Does anybody have any suggestions?
have you checked to see if the maf sensor is functioning? i would unplug it and spray some contact cleaner on the inside of the maf and also the connector first and then try.

X2. I had a very similar problem a couple of months ago, ended up being my MAF sensor crapped out on me.

The 3vz uses a flap style volume air flow meter, not a MAF.
More than likely the idle control components located on the throttle body have become gummed up over the years, you may need to disassemble the throttle body assembly and clean all the ports as well as the EGR valve setup. All these components work together and if one fails it can cause a multitude of symptoms.
