Well, finally made it in to work, but only after ripping apart one of my rear brakes.
Used the e-brake earlier in the day. When I left to go into work, found that there was a hell of a lot of vibration and sounds coming from my one wheel.
To make a long story short, seems like my e-brake cable on the passenger side locked up in the on position. Ended up having to go back home, get the rotor off, which took a bit of work, to say the least, but it's all good.
Now it looks like my e-brakes will have to be done as well as the one cable I'm figuring will need done. Searching I cam across these part#'s
46540-33010
46550-33010
46540-33010
46590-33010
Plus I figure I'll need to replace the cable on the same side as well.
Anyone know of where in the GTA would I be able to find what I need without be overly pricey? [it's a '92 V6 LE]
but regardless, unless you take a trip to the junkyard, everything is dealer only. aftermarket companies don't even make the emergency brake shoes for our cars

Thanks for the reply. Got those part#'s from a post a year or so back.
I'm going to hit the wreckers' in the morning as I have some time to kill and see what I can find. Ya never know. I got brand new set of rear rotors, pads and calipers for next to nothing! [looks like they were just put on the car, tested to work, and the car was then gotten rid of. Fronts were the same, but already have them done so didn't bother with them. rotors and pads are actually toyota OEM from the dealer] Just never know what you will find some days! Caliper will come in handy on the one side as it's foobar'd and needs to be replaced. The other I'll either just change as well, or keep just in case.
Anyways, All I found were the shoes online last night. Went to the dealer up by the house and gave me a print out of the parking brake assembly [for the foot pedal to the brakes] w/part#'s pulled from toyota's FSM for a '92 LE
46420 passenger side brake cable $104.58cdn
46430 drivers side brake cable $104.58cdn
46540 FRH shoe $35.09
46580 FLH shoe $35.09
46550 RRH shoe $35.09
46590 RLH shoe $35.09
47611 RH parking brake lever $35.53
47612 LH parking brake lever $35.53
The brake parts don't come in a kit unfortunately, but come piece by piece. A few are as follows:
47447E straight pin $10.76 (qty2)
47447F curved pin $7.26 (qty2)
47447D shoe hold down spring $13.00 (qty4)
47449A shoe hold down cup for underneath $14.52(qty4)
47449A shoe hold down cup for ontop $18.00 (qty4)
damn, that'll add up real quick- try the junk yard and you should at least be able to find the shoes- hopefully in good condition, and the pins, etc.
the cables, you're usually SOL on, only because the cars are usually sitting flat on the ground. if you're lucky, and you need the dust shields, they maybe accessible as well.
check out dom's auto in oshawa and you'll find more than one or two v6 camrys there to tear the e-brake stuff out of

Exactly! The service manager was telling me on newer models they're actually sellingproper brake kits for them. Just not our years.
Haven't heard of that wreckers before. I know about 4 u-pull places around the GTA, plus there's cookstown and the one out in darlington, but they only allow you in on saturdays there. Standard is still about the best I find, as well as there prices are reasonable compared to a lot of them. Worst for pricing ever I've come across is the one on highway 9. It's not a u-pull either. When I was deciding what to do with my rear lights and center panel, thought I'd stop in and ask about the gen3.5's. They wanted $150-$160 for one. Just insane. Standard cost me a whole $25 I think it was.
If I'm lucky, possibly the car I got the rear brakes off of is still there. Didn't check at the time, but wouldn't surprise me if the parking brakes were new or in great shape as well. Car appeared like it was taken care of for the most part.
Can I ask how far did you drive with you park brake on? Why did you have to replace all those parts?
Just curious!
N.E.O.
Probably only went about 10km, but it was enough to heat up the entire rim/brake quite a bit. Right now I've adjusted it so that it's like the brake is off so I have no parking brake at the present. But as well, it wasn't that it was just 'on' it was locked on extremely tight to the drum hence the vibration I was getting.
Need to really get inside both and see what's good and what's not for exactly what I need. On the side that I had the issue with, the shoes are toast. Hardly any pad left, and what was, the ends I easily snapped off as they weren't attached much anymore. I'm figuring the other side must be just as bad. Those will have to be replaced, as well as the cable which caused the whole mess in the first place. Other cable is fine, but it may need replacing as well. Not sure. With the rust and probably being original from the looks of it, some if the springs etc inside may need to be replaced. I find the pins tend to brake when they're old/rusted as well as I don't trust the holding springs when they're rusted pretty good. Once I clean everything I"ll have a better ideas what's ok, and what's not. Caliper is in bad shape which I knew already so it'll be switched out as well at the same time.
a bit of a drive for most people (especially me, since I'm in Mississauga!) but well worth the trip...when I last went there for parts after my accident, they easily had a dozen gen3 camrys there
unlike standard, they're also well cataloged and they can tell you exactly what they have in their yard before hand, so you won't waste your time driving out there. on the whole, they also know what parts still remain on the cars as well

You probably live not too far from where I work then. I have some free time to kill some mornings so I usually hit mega city, then standard. Thanks for the link. Never heard of them before, so always good to have another source.
I live up west of orangeville, so they're all a trek for me!
I've never been to megacity yet, but I've heard that it's decent. cooksville is a joke though lol
It's about 75km but honestly it's not too bad. Takes me 1hr to get to work in Miss. and I don't deal with the traffic as much. I work with a couple of guys that live in scarboro and they take usually a couple hours in rush hour traffic, sometimes longer and they're much closer.
Mega city wasn't too good today. Most of the camry's are gone, although they do have two '92 Lexus ES300's there. One with a toyota 3ZV engine
I know what you mean about cookstown. When I had the cherokee, found some nice hard to find parts, but for the camry, what's there is pretty torn apart and doesn't seem like they get too many in from the looks of it, although when I was there last there was a mint one from the US. Only some front end damage from a collision. There's a couple of MR2's there but they're torn to hell. Megacity as well has a old style MR2, paritally picked over as well as a supra and an 90's celica as well.
From there went to Standard, which I've always found to be the best u-pic overall. Didn't think of the parking brakes when I grabbed the rear brakes the first time. I'm thinking they were in mint shape as well. Someone grabbed them. They've several camry's there right now. Both I4 and V6's. Wasn't finding anything too promising for the most part, but they just put out another one so I decided to pull off the rear brake rotors and have a look see. [interesting though it was a gen I4 with rear disk brakes, not the drums]
Well, all I can say is I hit the jackpot! The most expensive part being the cables were virtually new. From the looks of it, most likely a few months old at best guess, so I grabbed the one I needed, checked to make sure the other side was replaced as well and grabbed both for a mere $12 [intead of dealer cost of $105ea. All the brake parts were new as well, so grabbed all of them to boot, and the connectors for the brake lines, just incase mine aren't in too good of shape, rather than having to buy them. The brake levers were new as well, so grabbed them as well. The shoes however weren't replaced and weren't in the greatest of shape. All the ones I checked were the same. Either they're pretty worn and chipped, or the pad is coming off of the shoe like mine are. I may have to just buy them new, but even so, at this point I'm way ahead of the game.
So I have now:
calipers x 2 [not sure what cost for replacement ones are to buy]
raybestos x 2 [OEM] [think they're probably about $50 or so new]
rotors x2 [toyota new, only been tested when the brakes were done]
Rotors I got a price for on the rears was $156ea.
parking brake 'kit' - Well now so much a kit, but all the needed parts. Dealer would cost easily $100 or more I'd say
parking brake cables [back end ony] x2 $105 from dealer.
my cost? $38 savings? approx $800
Now I just need the shoes. If I buy new, it'll be approx $160, if I can find a set in great shape, then it'll only cost me about $10 for all 4.
Once that's done, then it'll be off to my mechanics so I can get them installed. I'd do them myself but no way of getting underneath the car to be able to do the brake cables. That and I don't want to screw up bleeding the brake lines. Last thing I need is my brakes to fail!
Yeah, it can get like that, especially on weekends. The trick is to go first thing when they open during the week. I get off work at 6:30am So if I have the morning free, I hit megacity as it's pretty close and see what goodies I can find, then hit standard, or sometimes just go to standard for when they open. There's hardly many around for the most part, and I'm usually done by noon or so with usually either the afternoon to do whatever, or pick up the g/f when she gets off of work. They're continually putting in new rows, so it pays to go on a regular basis. I always eventually find what I need. Just have to be patient sometimes. There's a couple things on my list to get which of course are hard to find parts, but I will find. I always do.
