Fuel, oh noes!!

So today i got into my car it was fine. I picked up my friend from school, dropped her off home and went to the bank. While i was at the atm i began smelling a gas smell. I just assumed that it was someone else. I drove to dominicks and it was till there. Drove home and it smells like gas INSIDE my car, not outside. I searched this and saw the guy who smelled gas and burning rubber. the difference is mine doesnt smell like rubber (yet?) and i didnt recently change my oil. Plus the spark plugs are the orginals. (only 62k miles, car runs great). Any ideas as to why the smell would only be inside and not outside? even if i stick my head under the car and take a huge whiff, i cant smell anything. Even outside usually fuel is a very distinct smell.

If u recently changed oil, some overfill drops to the hot engine bay will cause the smell for a while.

What year is your car? And what engine? Did you just filled up? Did you check under the hood or is that what you mean under the car?

If the smell is definately stronger inside vs outside your car, the 1st place I would look is under your back seat as already reccomended. Simply pull up on your back seat cusion with a bit of force and the bottom cusion will pop right off. Remove black oval cover plate by fishing rubber grommet out of hole and then you will be able to see the fuel sender / fuel pump assembly held to the tank with a bunch of screws. Check for any dampness, inspect both lines for leaks etc. Your car has low miles but the salt in chicago can cause the rubber lines to dry up or corrosion in the steel tubing.

someone fucked with me. put a gas can thingy in my trunk. My car is haunted i swear to god. i've never seen it before, my trunk is never open unless i'm right there and my parents didnt put it in. I'll hear like random voices that my radio picked up once that were loud as shit but my radio was really low, or another time was when i shut all my windows, and my back right one was open when i got back. I was lke, ok w/e maybe i forgot. well i parked somewhere else again and made sure that they were all closed 100% and it was open again when i returned. lol i have a ghost car.

back to ur questions, although prolly useless now, 96 5sfe, didnt just fill up, chcked under the hood/car, auto trans. well i guess i found out where the smell is from but how it got there i have no fuckin idea..
