3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Do any of you guys have experience with the Toshiba HIR to replace the 9006 bulbs? These things look pretty beefy but I dont know a single person that has tried them.
From what I have heard, the HIR bulbs are brighter and a bit whiter than stock and also allow for a greater sight distance. I actually plan to get them once I get some Depo clears. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with how 'beefy' they are, although I'm not sure if you are insinuating that they won't fit or what. The only thing concerning fitment, if that is what you are asking about, is just to make sure you trim them to fit 9006 sockets:
I believe that ekam used them on his camry back in the day after he got rid of his hids (got pulled over and ticketed for the glare...haha) and they were quite bright indeed!

Exactly! Plus I dont trust those $100 kits from ebay, and I dont want to spend $500 for the PIAA kit + fabricating projection lights.
So i will stick to halogen until I finish school and buy a car that comes with HID. Those Toshibas are $50.00 a set on ebay right now so I may just break down and buy them. If I do I will post the before and after pics for you all to see.

Thank you for those links. Now I know what to expect if I upgrade to these bulbs. When I said "beefy" I was implying that the bulbs are tough and sturdy looking. I was not questioning fitment. Anywho I really appreciate your post.

actually...if you do end up retrofitting projectors....the ebay kits are perfectly fine. In all, they don't lats quite as long- usually a couple years compared to 3 or 4 for a brand name kit. But for less than half the price, and sometimes even a quarter of the price (I got my current d2s kit for 55 shipped!), what do you have to lose?
the only reason my last kit pooped out on me after half a year was because of my front-end collision

Interesting. Haven't heard of these bulbs at all. For now I'm using Xenon's which I was used to in my jeep and work quite well. The trick is knowing how to install properly or they'll blow usually in a matter of weeks.
I've been toying with the idea of HID's, but with all I've been reading on here, it seems not too good of a idea with my depos I have in at present. Not sure if I really want to rip them open and attempt to put in projectors as if I f@ck up I can't buy a new set at this point, although I do have a set of projectors to play with. Was actually thinking when I get some time is to see about putting them in my original lights as a test project.
On the list of things todo. Still have my spoiler retrofit I'm working on which I'm still debating to use or go a different root and now plus now my rear brakes needing to be redone. Time and $$ are always the issues.
