3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
agreed, street racing is dumb. but if ya wanted to make your car faster that would depend on what ya have. 4cyl, V6? you could dump a bunch of money into it and make it faster but id only advise doing that if ya really really want to have a fast camry and not just a fast car.
of course i know i would lose, that's why i said at least keep up with someone, anyways, ty for the input from all of you. By the way, it's a 4-cyl, and the only idea i have is to keep it in low gear until close to redline --> then go into 2nd gear and push it to 6000 rpm and then into Drive. Otherwise, i understand that a camry is the last car to win in a street/drag race.

If you know you're going to lose anyway, why beat on your car like a red-headed step-child? Just drive it like any normal sane person would.
I feel sorry for your Camry. It's going to lose its engine and transmission in a short amount of time with you behind the wheel.

okedoke, ill save up to get bigbirds car, i already have 1k. Thanks for all the help guys. And, my camry will be just fine, because i'm a great driver.
Everyones right. Racing a camry, you're going to lose...
Especially if its on the streets. Anyone who races on the streets, even if you win, you lose.
You need to dump a crapload of money into your car to make it fast.
My sponsor Gene and I recently went turbo with our Gen6, but it cost a lot of money. He is making 300torque to the wheels though...
Basically, don't race/drag your camry on the streets. And your car needs some serious upgrades to make it fast. Anything is possible w/ money.
Just buy bigbirds car rofl
AGREED!!!

You need to be careful when you are driving in this manner. This shifter WILL allow you to accidentally throw the car in REVERSE when you are in forward motion. There is no safety to prevent this from happening. It is all too easy for this to occur when you are all excited during a "drag race". I would suggest, like others here have that you do not race this car. These cars have more potential to look great then they do to burn up the track. So if you ever hear someone on the sidewalk yelling "RICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as you drive by redlining in 1st gear it is probably me.
I'm in kansas, and if you were to see me, i would probably be driving the speed limit perfectly... jk, i usually drive about 4-5 mph above the speed limit, this car has about 195,000 miles on this tan colored camry. I respect this thing like no other. I want my car to last me until imma bout 22 yrs old or older. That's my goal. Anyways, admin/mod you can close this thread if you want to, i've gotten my questions answered.
