has anyone made their own coilovers for the gen3? i'm looking at a set of sleeves i have in my possesion and i figure ...why not? so i figure i'll build a set for the coupe and adjust my ride height hope i don't screw up you guys know how i do these things what is your opinion keep in mind that i'm doing it anyway.
i've also read up about other people doing it to other cars but not to a camry.
they should work just fine as long as you can find a set of sleeves that will fit over the struts- also as long as the sleeves that you have were originally designed for a mid-sized sedan and not a 2400lbs hatchback lol
ride quality though? have fun :

even $800 isnt that expensive for full 36-way adjustable suspension ... albeit entry-level, but still ... not really that expensive if youre into car tuning or what have you
i got mine from another member on here for $515 shipped with brand new fronts, and barely used rears

but you also can't go by a used price either...I got my current set for even cheaper than you, but chances are that people aren't going to get as lucky as we do either

Justin (Wraith) told me it is possible to make coilovers out of struts. I believe ha made a set once using Koni reds. He said something about cutting off the lower spring seat, and welding a piece of steel exhaust pipe as a stop for a coil sleeve kit. I didn't get all of the details, so I 'm not too sure about that. Try contacting him for more details.
I was really considering doing this too when Justin told me about it. However, I want to go over speed bumps with out scraping, so I've decided to shoot for an air suspension(some day). My car will never see a track, so no need for 36-way adjustability, and I can change the ride hight as the driving conditions require.
I know, cost is through the roof, but it is only a dream for now.
