Problems with removing 95 Camry stock radio

I recently ordered a new cd receiver from crutchfield and went to install it tonight. I took off the faceplate of the radio and went to unscrew the 4 screws. I managed to get 1 off but the rest were impossible to take off. I even got an electric drill with no luck. The screws are now dulled to the point where nothing fits in them. This is really frustrating. Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

You'll need a screw extractor bit to remove the damaged screws.

You've stripped the inside, not the outside.

Use a 10mm 6-sided socket with a six inch extension for the socket wrench, they'll come right out.

Which radio did you get? And if the speakers in your car are OEM, you may want to go ahead and replace at least two of them.

Yes and no,

Yes if any of your speakers are blown.

No because I currently upgraded my HU to an Alpine and my stock speakers actually sound a bit better than the stock HU. Try it out first before getting new speakers. You may be satisfied with what you have already

I picked up the Sony GT410U a little over a year ago, similar to the GT620U. You’ll love the USB port on it, I’m listening to something off of a flash drive plugged into the USB port probably 95% of the time I’m in the car.

With regard to stock speakers – when I replaced my head unit / speakers I changed the head unit first and yes, the sound coming out of the stock speakers was much better than with the factory radio. But when I then changed the four speakers (with the Sony HU) the sound quality went way up. Just consider replacing the door speakers at some point in the near future ($40 to $50 for good cheap speakers), especially if you think that you’ll have this car for a while. Once you get the stock speakers out you’ll see how cheaply made they were made.

And with regard to the 10mm socket & extension, you probably can use an extension shorter than 6”, but a 6” extension would definitely be long enough.
