3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2000 Camry Le and I have a few simple questions that I believe most if not all of you could answer for me about body kits.
1.)What body kits for my car have the highest front bumper clearance from the ground? Not including any custom kits you have seen.
2.)I have read on numerous sites that the 2000 and 2001 Camrys require some sort of modification to the front and/or rear to install an aftermarket body kit. What are these modifications and would the price increase because of them?
3.) Do all of the rear body kits come with places for dual exhausts?
1. the highest and, IMO, best looking kit avalible is the TRD lip kit(on my car), but its discontinued so ud have to pick it up used from either here or solaraguy.com. it leaves plenty of clearance and isnt real gawdy. check out creeps's (another member) car too, he has another kit and did a very good job gettin it to look good and it have descent clearance.
2. since you gen4.5, 00-01, then if ya have to have it modified id have a pro do it even though it will cost more...that is unless ya know how to do that stuff yourself.
3. all that ive seen have dual exhaust cutouts cept for the TRD kit.
The Evo4 has the smallest front bumper clearance. The one that has the best clearance is the TRD Lip, Street Scene Lip or the Extreme Body kit. The Black Widow or Spyder kit is to simple in my opinon.
The only thing I wish is that I had some 18 inch rims to give it a little more clearance.
Thanks for the welcome and such quick replies. I am sorry if I am picking you guys brains to much but I have some other questions about purchasing a full kit. I have been searching for a while and have come across many many different price ranges. I have found a few brand new full kits for 400 dollars on Ebay and I have seen the same one for about 800 dollars on another site. What is your take on buying this type of product from Ebay and should I trust the seller? Just to clear things up that 400 dollar kit included shipping. Example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-98...spagenameZWDVW
I realize this may not be one of the most intriguing kits lol but why is it so cheap?
Is PFRP (polyfiber reinforced plastic) a good way to go when purchasing a kit?
on a gen4 i would choose the trd kit. looks the best. the evo 4 kit is for more of that skyline-ish look if you ask me. you could go with that and some gtr emblems and skyline tails, and youd have close to a skyline look-alike, if your into that.
in my opinion, the rmm gen3.5 lip looks the better than most anything else, but thats a different car.
The TRD kit does not look like something I would be into all though it is a very nice clean looking kit. Im looking for something that will stand out more. Like the VIS xtreme kit. I appreciate your responses. Does any body have any knowledge about buying for less on ebay, and about the PFRP?
I bought my Evo4 front bumper from Extreme Dimensions made from Dura Flex(PFRP). I bottomed out many times with it and did not crack. But I cracked it while parking, it hit the curb so now it have some nice metal plates and rivets.
You can install it yourself, but remember to prep it really good so it does not look like crap by sanding and cutting. I would install/glue some metal washers where the bolts go so it hold better and have a less chance of cracking in the future.
Honestly, I would go to a shop and see if they can order it. If it has cracks in it or the wrong kit, you have to spend extra cash to ship it back and might have some trouble exchanging it for the right kit...
if im correct pfrp is pretty much urethane/plastic, which is what the stock bumpers are made of. the extreme kit isnt bad, not my style though.
if you want to stand out more then buy samarai's spoiler from him and paint it bright colors with lots of decals. thatll make you stand out for sure.
ebay though, is really a good source for parts, but be a little careful. buy only if the seller has a good rep and good amount of sales. also make sure it has a warrantee and is returnable if something is wrong. read up on the condition, cuz the picture isnt always the one of the actual part.

Thank you all so much for helping me out. I really appreciate all the feedback! Thanks for the tip on the washers. I probably will not be installing the kit my self, seeing that I have never done so before nor will I be doing any of the prep work on the kit. I have absolutely no experience in any of the fields. But that is why I am here! Eventually I want to get my car repainted (when the kit is put on) and I am leaning towards black, a royal blue or a cool looking orange. Would the orange be too crazy? lol I am still in the process of deciding exactly where I want to go with all of this. This is a exciting time for me seeing that I have never really gotten into modding before and I like it because the possibilities are endless. So if you all have any dos and dont's you would like to share I would appreciate it. So far all I have done is install new door speakers my self new 6x9s my self and two 12s all of which I had never done before but its worked out great.
the orange would look pretty good. do a search on a guy named swegyptian and look for pics of his camry. its orange and very nice. and the blue that hamsterman did looks good too. i think his was spectra mica blue.
but anyways, you learn by doin it. thats how we all learn. i would start with smaller projects like speakers, as you said you have done, and work your way up. nothing like some knuckle bustin goodness!
im not a big fan of orange on a gen4...ive actually seen one with a kit believe it or not. didnt get a real good look but it was just to brash a color for such a simple body style. black or some other subtle color.
id pick somthing dark if your not goin with teh TRD kit so it tones down the contrast between the boring body lines and thoes more extreme lines and vents of the kit.
as far as buying, the cheap ones are basically cheaply made knockoffs of knock offs of knock offs. so they fitment isnt very good. teh more you spend on a good kit the easier it will be to install yourself and teh better quality it will be.
what every you do...do not get fiberglass. urethane will jsut bend and scrape if it rubs but fiberglass will just splinter and break.
