2001 CAMRY weird RPM problem

Thanks in advance to anyone offering advice on my problem. I have a 4 cylinder 2001 Toyota Camry LE. When I accelerate from a stop the RPM gauge jumps up to 3 and the car moves forward sluggishly. Overall, the car sounds fine but I am perplexed by this issue. My wife and I don't have a ton of money to pour into repairs so I am hopeful that someone here will have some suggestions. The same RPM jump occurs while accelerating at any speed.

Thanks

Please let me know if additional information is required.

Yes. It feels like it's too slow to get to where it needs to be.

There are 2 possible scenario popped up my mind:

- Your engine got slug built up in the cylinders, try to seafoam if it had never been done before.
- Your tranny started slippering, check the tranny oil asap.

How long have u had the ride and how long have you experienced this issue ?
