ok so i have the plastic gen 3 redbar panel i snaged from a junk yard. it had small cracks in it so i decided to mask off the revers lights and paint the panel black. I just was curious if 320 grit folowed by 320 wetsand folowed by dry 800 was enough prep to put down a thin coat of Krylon Fusion for plastic paint. It says no-pre, superbond but i thought id sand it anways. think it will b good? Its black with some shine to it It says "Dries in 15 minutes or less" (Which i don't believe) but it also says No sanding or priming and that it bonds to plastic. i thought just to b on the safe side to do small sanding prep. what yall think?
I always used Krylon "bonds to plastic" spray paint. I would mask off the reverse lights and take some paint thinner and clean the panel good. I would spray a good thick coat going nice a slow. I think the cracks can't be that bad enough to prep. I never had a problem with Krylon, but wait to get some other opinions than just from me.
start out with a 100-220 grit (pick 1) ... go in one direction, then change directions with the next grit 220-400 (pick 1) ... then do 600 wet, and follow up with 800 wet if necessary
also, dont use Krylon garbage - go to AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts and get a $5 can of Duplicolor in any paint code you want

IDK i acually like KRYLON better the the duplicolor i have used in the past. it seems to stick better and doesnt come off as easy. i did a 320 dry sand folowed by a 320 wet just to get the gunk off then i used a fine 800. i barley sanded my emblems and they came out perfect. almost brand new looking and they shiny. but i do have all the grits you have so ill go from small to large tomarrow then lay down some of the KRYLON cause thats all i have since BOTH of my jobs laid me off 30 hrs a week... so i quit one job and im on the hunt for another so i dont have much money (just for gas) and thats it. some im using what i have.
no point in doing 320 dry AND wet ... might as well step up in grit when you go from dry to wet
and youre not supposed to jump more than like 200, so from 320 to 800 wont give you the best surface ... although i break that "rule" on a lot of parts depending on the project
i know when i did my black panel i did 80, 120, 220, 400, 600w, 800w, 1000w - havent ever had problems with DupliColor except for their Engine Enamel bubbling on the heat shields, but i shouldve got the High Heat even though they SAY the Engine Enamel is good for a couple hundred degrees

Yeah lol but like i said its all i got and all i can get for a long time haha. so tomarrow ill go from 320, 400, 600, 800 seeing as that is ALL the sand paper i have hahahha guess that will be good enough
If u wanna paint the pannel, i suggest try to find the DX/SE pannel. It has the reverse light attached separately, so you dont have to deal with the masking and overspray hassle.
I know they are damn rare, but is worthy I guess, I got mind shipped from Toronto Canada.
oh yeah, and make sure the first coat is just a light dusting .... the second and third coats should be the ones to actually cover it with the color, if you start out with a heavy coat youll mess it up
