Oil sensor q&a

Well, finally got my oil pressure gauge in, but not sure what to make of what it reads.

Firstly, the stock oil pressure switch. How does it actually work? and how do you know if there's an issue or not with it?

As for my oil pressure gauge, that's a whole different ballgame. I've had the car since dec. and so far haven't had any major issues. I do regular oil changes etc. and have never once had the oil pressure switch light come on.

Now, I only have driven it the once since putting the oil pressure gauge in, but what it shows was quite high when I initially started the engine, then once I was on the highway and all warmed up, it would stay about 20psi [on the gauge] when on the skinny. When I took it off, it would drop some, and when idle, it just sits at 0psi. Now I know that there's not necessarily anything wrong, and it might be this is what the sensor is sending as it is just a generic one the gauge came with and not using one before I just would like to figure out is this is what I should be seeing [with the pressure sensor]. I have left the original switch in as well, and still doesn't show as there's a problem at all, as I would figure if there was a problem with the oil pressure the light would come on.

Just like to get my head round it before I think there's a problem when there isn't. The engine seems ok [other than the o-ring on the oil filter assembly needs replacing]
