3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This is one of my first threads and you guys seem to know alot about camrys so I figured you could hook me up with some ideas and suggestions.
I have a 1992 Toyota Camry 4 cyl. 2.2L SE (I believe its the 5sfe engine, correct me if Im wrong) and I really need some ideas of how to gain some horses. I have already put in a Weapon R Secret Weapon intake and have connected the ram tube up to my scoop. I was wondering if you guys had anymore quick and easy ideas of what more I should do besides a turbo. Im looking into new headers and a new exhaust system, but I cant seem to find any online, Im sure you guys have so could you please throw up some links of good headers and exhaust that will fit my car. I woudl greatly appreciate some help.
Bosal Header
Hi-flow Catalytic Converter
Aeroturbine Resonator (or similar)
Magnaflow Muffler (or similar)
Full 2.25" or 2.5" mandrel-bent exhaust piping
that with the intake combined should give you 5-20 hp, which isnt a whole lot but you cant do much without forced induction on these engines
you could get cams, most people use 3S-FE cams with custom work from a company like Comp Cams ... but that would require a valve job / head work and whatnot

of course you can get any brand for everything but the headers, i think Bosal is the only company that is easily accessible unless someone in the For Sale section is selling off their RippMods header

personally, save your money to buy something with some balls. starting off with a 130 hp 4 cylinder grocery getter wont go too quick without a lot of money.
Does your cam have the ECT button above the radio? It helps a little if you are looking for a racing type thing. My Avalon did, and I liked pushing it.

When you want sports car handling, you buy a sports car.

if it were me id save the money for suspension and visual mods. the 5sfe has little potential compared to the V6 or an engine swap. and far less then many other cars out there. not saying it cant be done, you can pick up a little hp from a full exhaust but its not worth all that money for a hand full of horses to show for it.
