3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
In my previous thread, I stated that I have a completely stock 99 Camry. My engine type is 5S-FE. (Background information to help you guys with my question.)
I just took a look at my whole exhaust about 5 mins. ago, and I've decided, that I want a new one.
Are there any sites, places/stores, people, threads, that I should know about pertaining to exhausts. I'm just looking for help on how to actually get one, and then what to do next.
I'm either looking for an exhaust system that sounds nice, or if it doesn't sound nice, a system that would give me a bit of Hp.

.
if thats the case then you lookin for somthing that sounds nice, cuz even a full exhaust on teh 5sfe gives little in the way of power...at least that makes it worth the money spent.
there arent any companies i know if that make a full exhaust for the 5s but you can get headers, cats, mufflers and even cat backs from places like andy's auto sports but they are expensive that way. my advice is to get a cat cack built or just weld in a muffler, liek areo turbine, borla, or magnaflow. thoes are all quiet.
best way to decide on mufflers will be to go on youtube and check out sound clips of different camrys with different mufflers.
exhaust system on a 5S does nothing in terms of power.
you want a good sound? get a magnaflow generic muffler, go to a muffler shop, have them cut your exhaust flange and bend a few pipes and welt your new muffler of choice in.
it's cheap..and fun =] good to annoy neighbours and turn off parked car's alarms.
Yeah, thanks bird for the suggestion, I think I'm going to just maybe get a tip, nothing else. I searched the businesses that you recommended and they had nothing for my model and year.
In your opinion, is a tip enough to hear any significant change/difference?

Tips aren't necessarily what you're looking for, more along the lines of a universal muffler...
Hmmm, I think the intake would benefit me more than a muffler at this point. Thanks for the suggestions J, with an Intake, I'll eventually get a muffler when I have the spare cash again.
I think bigbird and smurf-cum (LOLed over that for a few mins) are right.
I'd leave the muff stock, or go with something quiet.
I went the other route and didn't look into or know anything about intakes until I already had a muffler on...
You can build an intake just like Nesquik, I, and millions of others have done by going to lowes/home depot for most of the piping, and autozone/kragen for the filter...
Plenty of DIY's on here showing how do it. Good luck!
Thanks all for the input, yeah no racing ever for this drive me to work/school/activities kind of car.
From the information you guys gave me, I think my investment would be greater if I got a new intake. Plus, it helps my engine out more than an exhaust tip, hehe.
I'll consider that option wicked once I get paid again, otherwise, I'm going to start my own DIY, without making a tutorial though, because this will be my first project I've ever done.
