4th Generation 120,000 miles maintenance for Camry

Instead of paying $600 at the dealer, I've decided to do it myself. But I need some advice on parts. Should I get genuine Toyota or aftermarket? I need to replace the following parts: spark plugs, belts, ATF, air filter, coolant, brake fluid.

NGK spark plugs @ sparkplugs.com or on ebay.
Belts, oem but I'm currently using duralast.
ATF, oem if possible, if not, get anything thats compatible with dexron 3.
K&N Air filter, its washable.
Coolant, very important, get OEM.
Brake fluid, any will due, make sure its dot 3.

Which NGK plugs should I get? Sparkplugs.com has different class plugs. The cheapest ones is the V-Power plugs at $2.24. Are these good enough? How long do they last?

The NGK Multi-ground plug is oem. Part number BKR6EKPB-11, that's if you want to go the stock route.
A lot of people use NGK IX iridium, including myself, part number BKR6EIX-11. They should last about 100k.

And while you're there, might as well replace the wires. Part number TE58 for your car.

I would do the timing belt as well if you dont know when it was last done. You can get the goodyear gatorback belt at auto zone for around 30.00 and you might as well replace the pcv valve and the fuel filter for sure. Also the trans filter. Castrol makes some good foreign vehicle atf that is dexlll compatible.

if you're doing timing belt, do the water pump as well. and maybe even the springs/tensioner.

Thanks for the replies. My car has been serviced exclusively at the dealer from the start. The timing belt was replaced at 90,000. The sparkplugs at 60,000. I don't think the plug wires has ever been replaced.

The NGK IX iridium is a single ground plug but Toyota says use only twin ground platinums. Does it really matter? If it doesn't then I'll get the iridiums since they are cheaper and last longer.

Hey,

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a 2000 V6 LE (manual transmission) (1MZ-FE) at 120,000 mi myself and would like to know if these parts will work for me as well. I assume the K & N air filter will work as well as the other OEM parts that have been recommended (minus the ATF). I'm most concerned about getting the best spark plugs. Is there anything else I should do to my vehicle to maintain it? I'm planning on keeping it for a while.

I had the timing belt, water pump done at ~95,000 so I think I'm good there.

Flush your powersteering fluid, brake fluid, use OEM products because they were specifically engineered and will keep your car running in tip-top shape. Do not skimp on something like maintenance, it will bite you in the ass if you do.

PS Fluid= Use Dextron III ATF fluid
Brake Fluid= DOT 3 brake fluid

If the brake fluid is black its definitely time for you to replace it. I don't know if you know this, but it also absorbs moisture over time, so it's good practice to replace it anyway.

I went to Kragen and picked up a K&N Air filter for $50 including the service kit. I also picked up a set of NGK Iridium IX plugs for $28. The clerk said they weren't as good as the NGK Laser Platinum plugs (OE style) because they aren't dual ground. He said customers notice a drop in performance after 12,000 miles.
