okay, so I was messing around and I removed my original air filter box and everything and replaced it with a Spectre air filter, nothing major just a cheap little AutoZone piece. Do I need to do anything else? I still have the original hose hooked to it, so the oxygen sensor box that hangs down it intact. The only thing is the open vent that originally connected to the air filter box...and now, which I don't know if this is related, I have kind of a belt-like squeak as the engine is running that I can hear run down when the engine is switched off. It's not major by any means....and I can find nothing leaking air-wise.
sounds like it may be a little air leak. try to pin point where its commin from.
It sounds a little more "mechanical" than an air leak....I can hear something whirring to a stop that's part of the same noise when I turn the engine off. It's just a minor thing, but it's enough to drive me crazy.
I went ahead and checked the hoses and all, but I can't seem to find anything.
Reset the ecu, make sure the IAT sensor is in a good place to read the air temp incoming, make sure the filter is securely fastened, make sure nothing is loose in the filter.
I'd try to return the filter and get a new one if this doesn't work.

well ok!!!...i wanst the only one. my 94 did that and i could NEVER figure out what it was. sounded like a pump of some kind. till now i thought i was crazy. but yeah it never really did anything. the car drove the same and nothing was leaking, at least that wasnt already leaking before the sound.
can you get a sound clip of it?
and i dont think returning the filter and getting another would do anything. its a filter, if its not working...then your doing it wrong.

Bahaha, I am glad to hear that. I've been at it for a week now and I'm yet to find the sound. The weird thing is once the car's been running a while it seems to decrease.
Nah, no sound clip available I'm afraid. I'm an even bigger dumb-ass when it comes to computers.
Buy the rest of the Spectre intake
Sounds a lot deeper with the rest of the piping. In the morning when I first start the car I hear the air getting sucked into the intake. I dont know if thats the sound you are talking about

DUDE! I bet that's exactly what he's hearing...
hey CMitchell, when you have it in park or nuetral after the engine is turned on the sound is present or no?
if you throw it in drive/reverse/1/2 what happens is the throttle engages and the air intake starts sucking in air... could this be it?
