3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
back finally, after a week of no power, mre's, ice chests and a noisy generator in the back yard, i bring you pics of what you dont wanna see when you look out the front door during a hurricane....
and the morning after pics: luckily as you may be able to tell i escaped major damage, a large branch the size of my thigh missed the car by inches, the one the size of my upper arm landed on it and gave me a half dozen hickeys on and around the trunkthe worst of which is right on the corner above the tail light, luckily it didnt break the window or tails or put any holes in the metal, all in all we came out with very little damage.
Glad u made it through safely....I guess Sonic burgers are out of the question for a while.
thats about 300 yards from here as the crow flies... ill be adding more pics to that prolly later today, we have piles of limbs up and down my street as hi as the houses...
lol yea it was a mixed blessing, i had about 2 hours or so of finish wet sanding left before we were supposed to paint on sunday (the day after ike hit) now i have a bunch of dents to try and smooth, and many of them hit on the body lines so i cant just slap in some bondo and call it good, and since there is no telling what was blown onto my car during the storm i have to pretty muych go back over everything, but since it was part way under the car port, tx windstorm may cover the damage whopee...lol and since my painter works for texas/newmexico power, he wont be available for probably another couple weeks anyways... just makes me glad we decided to slow down and take our time instead of rushing the paint job for the weekend before... i woulda cussed alot more to have to go get the custom color remoxed, re bought and re spray the whole damn car to make sure it matched...
damnnnn... glad you and your family is safe.. and so is your precious baby, the Camry.. lol

10 things you learn about your cam after something like this:
1: trees suck and should be outlawed...lol
2: a camry with 17s and lowered suspension can still get thru downed trees
3: you can haul 2 chainsaws, fuel, oil, and 2 12's in the trunk
4: you can haul 4 bags of ice, 2 flats of water, a case of mre's, and a case of canned meals, but youll have to use the back seat for the canned goods
5: a camry is comfortable for waiting in a mile long line for ice and water
6: 3/4 of a tank will last untill the lights come on and the lines go away at the pumps
7: hiding behind big rigs when going thru instersections with downed lines is good
8: the ac feels like heaven when you have no power in your house
9: people stare when its covered with a tree
10: trees still suck...and you cant kill a yota
Good to see that you made it through with out crazy damage! I'm from Houston myself. is it just me or did it sound like it was never gonna end?
i got stuck on that south west side that kept back building, and back building... that was one of the craziest things i have seen, and not a typical storm at all...
something i can tell you is its one thing to see pics of places destroyed like this when you never been there, it is another to look at them and know somewhere you have pics of you or your wife n kids or a memory there.
I'm from the La Porte area SE of Houston. We were expecting a 12' -15' surge so I high tailed it to my girl friend's up in Hockley. About 2AM we woke up to her neighbor's 60' oak tree falling on her roof. When I went back home I had made it through relatively unscathed. My oak tree was still standing! Go figure.
What did I take with me when I evac'ed? All the pieces from my AC system that I tore into the week before, my air compressor, vacuum pump and, oh yes, some clothes. Curious what seems important and the Camry won, hands down.
It's almost been two weeks since IKE came through and I still don't have power in La Porte. I'm real happy that I have water (water's #1). Curiously, they have electricity 3 blocks away. Frustrating! As soon as I get electricity back, it's back to the AC system on my Camry. Since I had 6' of water in my Kemah office and they don't have water or electricity yet I expect that I'll have a few days (weeks?) to finish it up.
Life is getting back on course. Yea!
