3rd Generation Antenna wiring question! Please Help!

Ok so me and my friend while back installed a new cd player into my camry and it works great. but the antenna came on even if i just turned the car on so i didnt hook up the antenna power wires. Well i want the radio signal back so i can get the radio stations i use to be able to pick up. i thought it was just a simple plug and play but its not. i notice i have three wires comming from the stock harness that are not hooked up

the three wires include:

Pink wire with blue stripe,
Red wire with black stripe,
and a plain black wire.

can anyone tell me which is which? all the other wires are hooked to the deck except these three which we left sitting there. i cant remember why and what they did, i just want my antenna working. any help would be great! Im in school atm and will be check back alot because i have my whole head unit hangin out my car in the parking lot while i was tryin to fix it.

Chris

Well the black wire would be your ground, Red and black would prob. be your 12v and the pink would be the signal for the antenna. Im pretty sure thats what thoses would be.

Sounds like you wired things up manually rather than getting an adapter harness to go from your new CD player to the car harness?

When you say the antenna went up just turning the car on, do you mean you had the new CD player OFF and the antenna still went up when you turned the key on? If so, then it sounds like you had the antenna power lead connected to the switched 12v supply.

If you had the cd player ON when you turned the car on, then that's a different story. Many aftermarket stereos send power to the antenna regardless of whether you have the radio selected or the CD player. That was the case with my JVC deck. If that's the case, then you have a couple of options. 1) add a switch to manually put the antenna up/down. 2) do the S2000 antenna conversion that a lot of folks (including myself) have done.

The pink wire is definitely NOT your antenna signal. That's the big heavy black plug that plugs into the deck separately.

So, just curious. When the antenna was going up automatically, did you have the CD player on?

On my stock deck, the antenna only came on when i turned the radio on. not when i just played a cd. but on my JVC deck even when i just played a cd and it got kinda annoying. so im getting ready to go work on it now but im hookin the antenna power up to a switch so i can put it up only when i need it

You don't have the instruction manual? It should have a wiring diagram that shows what each wire should connect to. If you don't have the manual, you may be able to download a manual from the manufacturer's website.

From what I remember when I installed my stereo, the colors are:

-paired wires-
- white, grey, purple, and green wires are for the speakers

-single wires-
- red (switched 12v)
- yellow (constant 12v from battery)
- black (ground)
- blue (antenna/amps)
- orange (lighting for dimming at night)

OK. Yeah, alot of aftermarket decks are like that. They just send power to the antenna any time the unit is on regardless of whether you've selected CD or radio. The manufacturer probably saves a nickel by doing that vs. only sending power when the radio is selected.

My deck is JVC as well. I lived with the antenna going up and down everytime I powered it on/off for a few months. I was contemplating doing a switch, but knew I was going to do the s2000 eventually anyway, so I just went ahead and got the parts and did the conversion.

My panasonic deck does the same thing. It's either up when the HU has power, or down when I turn the power to it off, regardless if it's using IPOD, CD or radio. Going to putin a switch, but haven't gotten around to it as of yet.
Issue I have is I just can't get a very good signal at all for some reason.

What color is the wire comming from the harness hooked to the switch? i was playin around with the wiring last night and put 2 wrong wires together and fryed the jvc deck

Heller told me to hook it up to this aarea on the deck because it looks like an antenna on pic... and boom! so hes taking it to see if he can fix it, it might just be a fried resistor but hes lettin me use his old pinoeer until i can get a new one or mine fixed. we will see.

Im still puzzled as to what is the power for the antenna. so far i have a few spare wires. green (which is deck dimmer i know), (flat black), (Black with red strip), (and pink with blue stripe).

I hooked the 2 wire hookup with the pink and black with red which caused the deck to fry....

Any ideas?

I just want my antennia hooked to a switch until i can get the s2000 conversion
