Anyone know how to remove the center console plastic housing around the shifter without breaking it ? I can seem to find where it comes loose from the dash.

Do you want to remove the whole console or just the flat panel around the shifter? The flat panel is removed by using a screwdriver to pry at the rear of the panel until it pops up and can be removed. The entire console is removed with a series of screws and 2 bolts that reside in the armrest compartment, under a panel.

I actually need to remove the part that has the cup holder/ashtray where it is attached to the dash sorry for any coufusion.

The ashtray and drink holder are part of the forward console. The console is in two pieces. Removal is as said previously. Place shifter in neutral, drive, 1 or 2. chock or block the wheels so car doesnt roll. Disconnect battery, remove panel around shifter, remove all screws and the two bolts in the armrest compartment, Remove rear console. Remove front console. Be patient, there will be a few wires to disconnect.
