3rd Generation I4 gen3 died on hard brake

My girlfriend was driving my '93 I4 (I had been drinkin') when she slammed the brakes at a redlight. It was a pretty hard braking, but not ridiculously rough. Nonetheless a few seconds later I realized the engine had died. I started it back up (she had no idea what was going on) with no engine hesitation or problems.

This was the only time it died on me. I don't have ABS.
Was this some kind of safety feature or is it a problem?

Maybe it is just idling too low and the sudden stop cause it to choke itself out. I am not aware of a safety feature that would stall the engine.

If she was running at a high RPM and suddenly dropped to a low RPM it may have been a glitch with the EGR, IAC, the air volume monitor (don't know if you have a 3SFE or 5SFE) or even a dirty throttle body.

Since it took a traumatic event to cause it you may have had a lucky glimpse into the future. You have an opportunity to track this down somewhat at your leisure. It will probably run fine during normal operation for a while longer.

clean your throttlebody- or, especially, your IAC and it shouldn't happen again

hmm, interesting. I was actually planning to clean the throttle body after seeing how easy the tutorials here show it. Is there a certain type of cleaner I should use?

Exactlly what I was thinking too. Have the problem myself although it usually doesn't cut out.
