Ok so i searched and i didnt find anything about this, basically i want to know how much of a pain in the ass is it to remove the rear glass? I bought tint and i think it would be easier to install by taking it out. But since ive never done it, it might just be easier to shrink the tint and install it while its still in the car....anyway, how do you take out the glass?
Taking the rear glass out is a job best left to a pro, IMHO. Most body shops don't even do this themselves. They have someone come in and remove the windshield and rear glass when it becomes necessary, and then come back and reinstall them when the body shop work is completed. If you can install the film with the back window in the car, that's the way I would go.
That's what I was thinking as well. To do the rear window glass, it's not too difficult. just take your time. I removed all of my door glass when I tinted it.
If you're talking your rear window, I had my glass shop to it.
I was talking about the rear back glass.....but...haha...i tried to tint my rear doors last night and the fucking tint folded up on its self and i have crinkles in the tint now, and then i tried to trim a piece and there is a hole in the corner now.... the rest of the window looks good, if it didnt have the crinkles or the hole i cut.....but i think im gonna just pull it off and get it done somewhere. It was an experience..... but at least i know what % i want now and what my car is going to look like when its done, and it only cost like $40-50 so not a huge deal.
I was into my doors anyway so was easier to just take them out, give them a real good cleaning and tint them all at the same time. Yes, they don't have to be removed, but for someone that doesn't do tinting all the time, it is easier doing it on a flat surface inside.
As for the back quarter windows, they're the worst and this coming from a pro, says you can't get them perfect, let alone some one trying to do it themselves. I told him I actually pulled them out which he said that really is the best way to do them, but no tint shop will spend the time to do it that way. Not even himself and he's been doing it for 20+ years. He did my back window as no way I could do that properly. It takes a lot of practice to do it and come out right. Hell, even some tint places you get it done and it comes out like crap bubbling and such.
U know what ? I tried myself at first with some reusable tint film from Pepboy, It trapped dirt no matter how many times I tried (always indoor garage). Then I ordered some precut tint online, the thing teared itself out as I grab it from the corner ... I took me over 300$ of "DIY" and countless of hours just to figure out that I can have it done within 2 hours for under 150$. I'm still piss off at myself right now.
You're crazy if you think it's only gonna cost $40-$50 to tint your whole car.
More like $100-$120
I paid $50 for the pre cut kit and the tool kit thing.
Anyway, i tried doing the triangle window on the rear doors and i could get the fucking bubbles out, so i ripped all that shit off and my windows are back to stock and im just gonna pay someone.
Know anyone in the DC area that is decently priced?
oh and FUCK TINTING.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
