3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hello there. ive used bosch plugs before and they all went bad when seafoaming my car, so i replaced them all with new bosch's about 6months ago as a last minute resort. btw, this is for a 97 es300 with a 1mz-fe 6 cylinder motor. and 4days ago i noticed the vehicle start to stutter, and the CEL came on. went to autozone for testing, and codes p0300 and p0302 were pulled. so today i changed that spark plug on cylinder 2(closest to the front of vehicle on passenger side). after driving away, it started to sputter again after about 3miles. the person at the counter at first said it may be the coil pack for that cylinder. could it be. this is for a 97. and stated that i would just need to replace that coil pack(located right above the spark plug). does each cylinder have its own coil pack? sorry, im not familiar with coil packs, because from reading, member pheonix stated that there are 3 coil packs, 1 for 2 cylinders. and follows as 1-4, 2-5, 3-6
^ The 94/95 had 6 coild packs. The 96+ had 3, and 3 wires.
I'd think it could possible be the coil pack as well. Have a friend there with a 1MZ you can swap coil packs with? It;s in the front bank and easy to do.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
On 97' there are only three coils, if it is the coil it will usually affect both cylinders on the same coil pack. Swap it with the other one, see if it moves to where you put it. Switch the spark plug too. Bosch plugs doesn't work the greatest on Toyota cars.
It could also be injector problem, may be sticking or leaking.

ok. sorry about the late reply, but yeah, swapped the coil pack from cylinder 2 to cylinder 4, now, cylinder 4 misfires, so indeed it should be the coil pack. have it on order from sewell lexus, should be here this weekend. only trust oem, but i got it shipped for $68/9. cheaper than autozone aftermarkets. thanks everyone.
