3rd Generation A/C Recharge: R-134a?

1992 Camry LE: MY A/C is starting to blow not-so-cold, so I assume it's time for a recharge. Trouble is, my silly ass has never actually done one.

First question, does this car run R-134a and would the DIY recharge kit and canister of 134 from AutoZone work?

Also, could somebody give me a step-by=step or at least some helpful info on this process?

Thanks so much, guys. I'm still pretty new to the board, but you guys have been really friendly and have given me tons of info so far. Cool folks on the TN board, indeed.

No..your car originally came with R12. You need to convert it or have it done.

Search this section. There have been numerous threads related to this lately.

3rd Generation

Well crap, I was afraid of that. Any idea on the cost of a repair shop recharge on R12?

Not worth it if you ask me. Do you know where it is leaking?

If it were me, Id convert it to r134a. You can do it yourself. You can rent the vacuum pump at AutoZone.

Like I said, there have been several threads about A/C recently, and most have covered converting.
