because it was cheaper to install a pedal brake than have a handbrake. I personally don't care for it.

They didn't. They screwed you with an auto tranny. j/k

The pedal brake allows for a larger center storage area and arm rest. Its more of a luxury feature.

Not true.

A. the mechanism/line goes from the lever to the rear brake in both cases. The straightest/shortest/simplest mechanism is a lever in the center with a single line that splits at the rear to each wheel. A lever on the left side of the driver area would consist of more cable and routing making it a more complex system.

B. If it were cheaper they'd all have it not just the higher end V6s.

I have the foot e-brake and I hate it. The hand brake gives you so much more flexibility in case you need it in the winter. I used to whip my little escort around in the snow with the hand brake. Now i can't even do it with the Camry. Ah well.

pedal e-brake here. 92 xle v6.

My e-brake does not go all the way up when I release it. I have to manually move it up a little with my foot to completely release the brakes. Does anyone know how to fix this?

lol, now that you talk about it, it's interesting, the Camry is the ONLY car with a handle hand brake in my family.
