3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Most of you know that I've been running nitrous (zex kit) for close to 3 years, but I got tired of not having traction off the line and losing precious distance against the other car, even with the rpm window switch which delays the nitrous. Now I'm running a new system in serial connection with my old system. Basically its my zex setup then directly attached to that is my new fuel and nitrous solenoids, and attached to the new setup is my nitrous progressive controller which pulsates those solenoids to control the flow of nitrous going out. If you're wondering why i couldnt just attached the nitrous progressive controller to the zex, is because the zex uses an NMU and controls the solenoids that way, and apparently on the nitrous forums, they say its not a good idea to have a controller controling the NMU. And if youre wondering why I just didnt replace the old setup with the new, is because i wanted a safer setup, where if the new nitrous solenoid were to get stuck open due to the constant pulsing, i would have the zex setup close the nitrous flow. Pictures to come so you have a better idea of what I'm talking about.
on a side note: Does anyone know how much hp the 3vz-fe is capable of with stock internals
always a good idea to have traction off the line lol
and nobody has a definite idea on that one, I'd say. mostly because different ways of adding power creates different types of stress. nitrous for sure, is not one of the gentlest of power adders though, I'd think. Not exactly linear usually.
but unless you're racing and using it ALL the time, I wouldn't worry about it too much. afterall, your car has lasted this long

yeah i just want to put nitrous oxide on the same map as superchargers and turbos as a possible power adder. if im still alive after 3 years of nitrous, it must be safe to use, haha.
I wouldn't put it on the same map of a forced induction, nitrous is a quick boost but eventually runs out, then you have to refill all the time. Forced induction is always better since it is there all the time after a certain rpm and better with more throttle. Nitrous is a flip of the switch and only at full throttle, until you run out.

thats true, but its not like you'll be using your turbo or supercharger all the time, and for the amount of time and money put in installing nitrous compared to a custom turbo or supercharger, you save a lot. there are also reliability issues with with turbos and gas efficiency decreases, i think, don't quote me on that.
I have to say that while I personally am not a fan of the use of nitrous, I have a good deal of respect for you in that you are setting it up with care and thought. Too many kids out there just bolt up and go. I am glad to read to the contrary in your case.
I think that n2o is "okay" personally...mainly because I can respect it when a person uses a reasonable amount of spray on their car, and it's done with care and respect. I don't give it quite as much respect as somebody with forced induction though, only because it still seems to be the "easy way" in the end.
And of course, each has its strengths and weaknesses....pretty much saying, spray is only for straight line- but for bang for the buck and a couple of highway runs- it can't be beat. But FI, you can use around corners, on road courses, and at all times. But it also comes with the price of lots of work, time, money, and maintenance issues all in itself.
What gets great props though, are ppl who build their engines FOR n2o....because that takes a fully built engine, and telling those ppl to turn their bottles off is like telling somebody with boost to turn down their boost
But n2o on the streets...I say why not....it's all just for fun anyway, and their bottle will run out sooner or later

sounds good man! I use to run a 175 wet shot(couple clicks richer) on my car for over two years. I'm glad to hear someone taking precaution when running juice. I've always had an safc and eugo so I always had my wot switch to like 82% and ran my f/r to 12.0:1( when I was n/a). becuase I was never on a track and just srayed on street( which is not smart btw, there is no reason to pull six cars on something in city.J/k! ).
I used to run Iceman Pure flow soleniods. controlled everything by wideband and safc( for the throttle) worked just fine. I miss first testing my tread life!!!. are you the one on you tube racing another car? like an s2000. I like that video. mine was faster than it is now for sure!! with the cost of gas compared to running a wetr shot I would say if you have a happy foot it comes out as N20 being the winner( if your running your shot to a/f ratio on your eugo.)
dont be so quick to judge him just because you have heard horror stories about spitting juice! cuz I'll kill you all!!!!( I've been drinking heavy and I still mean it!

ha thanks for the support my fellow camry enthusiasts. Nah i wasn't the camry racing the s2000, i was the one racing the M3. Either way, i give a lot of props to those with custom fit superchargers and turbos, definately does take a lot of work and knowledge to pull that off. I eventually want to go that route after i buy another daily driver, possibly a yaris or civic, i need something gas efficient. The one good thing about a nitrous setup is that if you do crash your car, you can just rip out your setup and put it in some other car without having to fabricate anything.
in ontario and new york, you get fucked if you get caught with it hooked up
Hide bottle in spare wheel well and paint the lines for the the engine black none will know!
Yeah i think in most states if ur caught with bottle hooked up ur can be seriously fucked. Myrtle beach, SC has laws about it but do cops really want to check under the hood here? no! they just want to write ur ass a ticket for speeding then get back into their car and finish their donut lol I have high respect for police but alot of the ones in Myrtle beach are just lazy about how they do their job
not sure actually, ive been pulled over numerous times but they never checked my trunk or under the hood. I have a permit to carry nitrous oxide, i'm just not sure what they would do
