Tire shop sabotaged my car

On tuesday I paid "tire king" $320 to put new tires on my camry.

Got it back, everything was fine. no problem.

Next day, something smelled kinda funny...like a burning smell.

It almost smelled like burning rubber so i figured i hit a corner too hard and burnt a little rubber.

This morning I was driving to school, turned on the heat and white smoke came pouring out of the vents. It filled up the passenger compartment in a matter of seconds. I rolled down all the windows and turned the heat off, naturally. Immediately following, smoke poured from under my hood. So I lifted the hood, saw a ton of smoke but couldn't see from where it was coming.

When I got to school, I told my shop teacher about it and we looked real quick and couldn't find the problem.

2nd period we brought it into the shop and had it running to see if it would smoke up again and pinpoint it. No smoke, but all of a sudden a kid comes running across the shop, jumps in my car and turns it off. I'm thinking....what the hell is your problem? He gets out and explains that some fluid is pouring out beneath the car. I looked under, it's transmission fluid. It's just a constant stream coming out. I was totally baffled.

I pushed my car in position and lift it up. It's leaking from where the CV axle connects to the transmission. The CV axle had scooted about 2 inches out of the transmission.

I looked around for a reason and realized that the snap ring had been taken off and the bolt that holds it tight had been backed out all the way. Now, aside from the mechanics aligning it and putting tires on, I'm the only person who has worked on this car. And the last time I touched the CV axles was in February when I replaced the clutch. I know for a fact that I got the snap ring in correctly and the bolt was tight. My teacher confirmed this too.

There's no way for a snap ring to come undone and the bolt to loosen itself completely at random.

So I got the CV axle back in, snap ring back in, tightened up the bolt and filled it up with some gear oil.

My teacher and I both came to the conclusion that the guys over at tire king purposefully undid these things so that I would come back to them and pay them $800 for a new CV axle. And I know this because every time I've brought my car there, they would loosen something and say it needs to be fixed. Recently they tried telling me I needed new tie rods because mine were old and would break soon. Which was funny because I changed them not even a week before that.

Not going back there again.

...Jackasses.

Anyone else have any shop horror stories?

Sue, or go back and kick their asses at least.

Maybe vandalize the hell out of their shop.

PLEASE! $320 is not chump change.

Agreed, that is BS what they did to you. I know of a couple of shops around here that does that too.

I don't really have enough proof to sue them for it...plus the fact that I fixed it myself and didn't call insurance or get it fixed by another shop kinda throws it all out the window. Most times lawsuits like that don't win...and then the company could turn around and sue ME for court costs if I lost. I feel like I would end up spending more money by doing that too. Unless I won. But if I won, I would only win about $500. And lawyer + court costs equals well over that. So I would still not win anything. Haha.

I would go chew their asses out but I'm not very threatening looking. Haha. I'm 5'9" and about 120 lbs.

But I'm thinking some black spray paint on their 12 white bay doors maybe. Or something to that effect.

So fuckin' pissed about it man.

Alright, I hope mods aren't thinking I am about to advocate criminal activity... so *disclaimer* do this at your own risk.

Just wear all black, black hoodie, black everything, go super late at night with a friend.

Like you said, black spray paint, OR just a huge ass can of paint to throw onto the doors/windows, grab some bricks, and you know what to do with those (as your friend drives you away).

Easy and cheap!

lol get together with some friends and have a little fun with them, they f'ed up your car.

This happened to a friend's friend of mine, had a engine swapped at a shop and they somehow messed up REALLY bad. We didn't have time to be working on cars during college so... in the end, they ended up with 2 turbos and some other stuff.

Well they said it would take like 2 hours so I ended up leaving and worked on my dad's ford.

And at this place, you can't see the bays unless you go around back, but they say you're not allowed to be in or near the bay at any time for any reason.

I'd be like some kind of major pissed off if a mechanic did that to one of my cars. It'd be great if u could prove they did that. Their just going to deny it, and its your word against theirs.

All u can really do legally to get them back is tell everybody u know this story, and they'll loose business hopefully.

The same thing happened to my daughter's Camry, when she had an oil change at a multi service shop here in Richmond, Midas of Richmond, tho I can't prove they removed the lower bolt on her left front end link, it seemed to handle "really crazy" she said, right after the oil change. She stopped driving it, and of course called DAD....2months later!!

They could have killed her. I drove it and a right turn pushed like drivin on ICE.

ASG14 discoved this unusual occurence on his recent visit. The girl is good to go now tho! Thanks Adam

Break a hole open in the window, release a bee hive into it, then tape up the hole really fast.

Please just do something destructive.

Legally I wish there was more to do, but as long as you take precautions or have some crazy friends that don't care about their lives who can do it, just get back at them somehow.

OR... you could just hope 'what goes around comes around.'

Up to you my friend. Good luck

I will definitly be destructing something of theirs.

I don't really know how good their security system is though. Or if they have one at all.

And yeah, I will definitly tell everyone I know not to go there.

And eyeball, sounds like my sister. Called my dad last night saying that two weeks ago her car overheated and the radiator exploded. Haha.

I wasn't planning on it. I really don't like kids. And when I say kids I mean like..under 10 years old. But maybe that's just my high school hormones swarming around. Haha.
