3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Been a long time, but I'm back... I decided I needed a 4-door, and as it happens, Tiem was selling his car, so I bought it just a couple months ago. Gotta love the s/c'd camry.
That said, after 111+k miles, the front shocks are way past dead. It's bouncy as hell and it bottoms on any random dip in the road, which is pretty unnerving at 70mph! It has Tokico blues right now, and after having KYB AGX's on the miata, i would like to have the same or similar adjustability on the camry. Did some searching, but wasn't able to find anything useful. It looks like the tokicos are serviceable, so I might be able to drop in a different cartridge. No matter what, I have to have something significantly stiffer than stock to be able to control the ground control springs. Suggestions? Budget friendly is always a plus - that's why i got AGXs on the miata instead of Konis. And let me tell you.. there's NO shortage of aftermarket for that little car!!
Thanks in advance!
Next up... a set of IS300 or maybe gen2 solara 17" alloys...

In short their are not too many options for adjustable shox for the camry. I only know one company that makes adjustable suspension without getting into coilovers. Heres the link:
I was going to go for coilovers but decided to try tokico+eibach first and damn.....glad I did. It is much stiffer than stock which is good, but not stiff enough to kill you. I WOULD prefer coilovers but the roads around my part of town SUCK, so unless you live in a pretty smooth area, I wouldn't recommend it.
Forgot, grab a trd rsb if the current car doesn't have it. whenever you get a chance. It is the BEST upgrade ever. Contact NVDIS1 over solaraguy.com
I already have Ground Control coilovers, so i'm not afraid of that. Plus my miata can be made to ride pretty freakin harsh, so i'm aware of what i'd be getting into. I just need a good stiff shock absorber to go with the GCs that won't blow out the first time i hit a dip in the road. What I want is adjustable dampers like KYB AGX, so i can set them to soft for a road trip, and hard for performance driving or autocross, and also use them to tune out under/oversteer.
edit: I just did a search on the k-sports - that's kinda what i was looking for, and i might be interested in them if the price and condition is right... PM me more details.
Guess I gave Tiem too much credit, expecting people to remember his car. This car is one of the original s/c'd gen4s. It has just about all the non-cosmetic bolt-ons, and then some... like a Fidanza flywheel, TRD LSD (originally for MR2 turbo), complete custom exhaust from the heads back along w/ Greddy EVO muffler, smaller pulley, sc300 injectors, SAFC... plus the usuals: trd rsb and fstb, short shifter, plus the trd body kit. I couldn't afford to buy the sweet BBS rims he had on it, since i would have had to repair one and put tires on them immediately, but it had 18x8 BBS RX wheels. Right now with the 15" steelies and hubcaps, it has a kinda sleeper or beginner ricer look, since it doesn't look slammed, but it's got the big shiny muffler, and the body kit is conservative... plus it's beige, just like 95% of the rest of the gen4s out there.

i know koni sells, or did sell, cartages that fit alot of stock (servicable) applications and even some aftermarket stuff. a buddy had some cheap ass coilovers and koni adjustable shocks that he just paired with them. not sure if they would fit but they did on his VW.
on a side note. i was trying to PM ya about your pervious car...the SCed SE coupe. im about to attempt it myself with the help of some other TNers with the SC from my current gen4. just wanted some opinions or advice on your setup. however i cant seem to be able to PM you and i didnt want to whore on here.

Are you refering to my coilovers? If so let me know and we can working something out.

My 2 cents on the matter, after rocking eibachs, intrax, KYB's and tockios....I settled for the Ksport coilovers...
Best money I spent for the camry handling wise that is, soften them for DD, and stiffen for everything else.
If I had it to do over again, I would have had these first.
Glad to see your still rocking camrys, beleive it or not I am still using the same camry I had when I was on Camryman.org
Tiem used to park his car to Lil Viv's Supra, and it looked a total sleeper.
Vivek's car never got any cosmetic addons either if i remember right... but a bright red supra will always attract more attention than a beige 4-door camry.
and yes john i was referring to your k-sports. I'll trade you my Tokico/GC setup along with my clear corners for your K-sports and your stock corners!
Really tho - email me since PM doesn't seem to be working on here. it's my screen name at gmail. Thanks!
