3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
ok so I dont know if you guys have seen these yet, but they now have twist bulbs for the clusters. But my question is, which ones do i get? 3mm or 4mm? Im talking about the NeoWedge bulbs.
Nice find! I'm gonna have to pick up some of these. Hopefully they're bright enough.
Judging by the size in the picture I believe ours are 4mm. I have a drive indicator I picked up from the junkyard for bulbs and the backs of the ones in that look exactly like the 4mm ones on the site.
If my camera had working batteries I'd take a picture for you. I'll go try and find some.

Yea i went ahead and picked up 1 of the 4mm and 1 of the 3mm to check, and i bought 2 #74 leds for my temp. gauge. im just trying to get a blue/red theme to match my head unit. everyone i know doesnt understand why im going through the trouble.....its FUN DAMN IT! and i want a matching light scheme....right now ive got Blue, red, and green....its fucking xmas in my car! haha.
Finally! I've been waiting a long time for those fucking neo-wedge pieces of shit. haha! I want everything to match too... I've since pulled the green covers off all the HVAC lights because I had to replace a few of them earlier this year.
ok they came. I bought a 4mm Red bulb, and a 3mm red bulb to test. The 4mm will fit the A/C button and Hazard lights as well as the middle guage cluster lights a total of 12 lights (13 there is one on the defrost button, but its not for the color of the symbol, but maybe for the amber light that says its on?) . As for the actual defrost button symbol, it is a 3mm bulb, but the LED one is too long, i jammed it in and it bent, but it still worked. But im pretty sure thats the only 3mm bulb.
I have ordered 11 more bulbs, 10 for the cluster and 1 for the hazard.
One thing i noticed is that on the main gauge cluster there are 3 or 4 neo-wedge bulbs, but they seem to be about 5mm or bigger, it does not look like the 4mm bulbs will fit.
Pictures of your progress would be SA-WEET! and it's nice to see someone pioneering for the rest of us!
np, ill take pics of it when i get a chance. The rest of the bulbs im assuming will be here on thursday since this last order came in 2 days. So i should have something up by the end of the week.
Im doing this because I got so used to my old HU matching the green perfectly, and when i bought my new the lights can be either blue or red, and the screen on the side is alway blue.
So im going with gauges and themo. lights blue, then putting red lights in some spots (a/c defrost center gauge cluster "PRDN", maybe the clock...might make that blue...idk)
One thing idk about is how im going to change the color of the ring around the cig. lighter. The light is a special bulb, so ill probably have to make something, but the ring itself is green....so idk.
I got bad news for any 4th gen users. These bulbs will not work well for the 2 AC leds and defrost leds. The ones for sale point down. The ones we need would point sideways. You are better off buying loose leds and resistors and doing it yourself.
If you get the bulb out you can unwrap teh wires and slide the bulb out. THen put the led in the same way.

so how many exaclty do we need to re do all of the dash lights? how many of each? im doing all mine in white or green. or both. idk yet haha but how many?
I believe (if I remember correctly) ASG14 said that the instrument cluster needed four #194's and one #74. I remember reading something about him saying the best light dispersion for the #194 are the WLED x5.
So...
For instrument panel:
four #194 (WLED x5)
one #74
For shifter console:
one #194 (WLED x5)
For ash tray:
one #74
I believe the #74 and the neowedge are interchangeable, but not exactly sure. Anyone (particularly ASG14) please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, but this is the information I collected when looking up changing out my bulbs.

Hes right. For gen3 if you have the electronic push button HVAC you need to do the above. For everyone else that has the three knob HVAC then I cannot say. I did the angling of LEDs with a resister and it work flawlessly. For those gettting the LED's everything in the HVAC push button unit takes a 3mm LED, and 2x5mm LEDS for the buttons.
PM me if anyone has questions. I have ripped my HVAC completely apart and desoldered, and resoldered new LEDS in
