How to replace the sparkplug tube seal (V6)?

Hi all,

How do I replace the tube seals back to the valve cover? There are two notches on the back of the valve cover that I could not squeeze the seals pass through as these seals seem to have a metal outer ring

This is for '96 Camry V6 (1MZ-FE).

Could someone please help?

Frank.

you have to bend the tabs back, and then use a screwdriver to take the old grommet out

it'll break up and you'll have to take it out piece by piece usually

then put in the new one, use a mallet to get it all down if needed (evenly) and then bend the tabs back

I hammer them out from the topside of the valve cover using a socket that is just barely smaller than the tube opening. this bends the tabs for you and is absolutely the easiest way i've found to do it. once the seals are out, bend the tabs straight up with needle-nose pliers before installing new seals.... and tap them back down with a flat screwdriver and hammer when you're done.
