99 Camry Starting Problem

Hello All,
I cannot start my 99 camry without shorting the starter relay. I've checked continuity on the starter relay and clutch starter switch - both are good. No I need to check the ignition switch. How do I access the ignition switch. I'm not sure where it is and what I have to do to get to it and check for continuity - any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is bolted on the opposite end of the ignition lock cylinder, you will need to remove the lower trim panel and lower steering cover to get a good look at it, but there should be a connector close by with all the wiring going into the ignition switch. The alternative way, is just use a test light or meter to check for voltage going into the clutch switch. Does you car have an alarm system on it?

Thanks for the reply NEO. There is no alarm system. How do I check the ignition switch through the clutch switch? I have access to that. Would I turn the key and expect to see 12V on the DMM at the clutch switch? Another value and if it is zero does that mean the ignition switch needs to be replaced?

It should have 12v coming in when the ignition switch is in cranking position. If you don't see the 12v, check the connection first, the ignition switch doesn't go out very often but once in a while they do. Just look for the connector with a few heavier gauge wires.
