I have a 94 camry which is a v4. It has been leaking oil pretty bad from the top of the engine. someone told me it is the oil pressure switch. it seems like that would be an easy fix but i don't want to just pull it out with out knowing how to do it. I have the Haynes repair manual but it doesn't show it. does any one have any advice for me. thanks in advance.
If you buy a replacement switch (assuming that is the problem) you should be able to just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. Luckily that is one of the simplest fixes. Hopefully that is all it is.

What about the cable or plug coming out, do i just unplug it?
Unless you've had oil pressure problems that point to the sending unit I doubt it needs replacing. It probably just needs the threads to be re-sealed. I would not use plumbing T-tape as that can get inside the oil galley and plug a pressure passage. I would use something like Permatex thread sealer. You need to remember that the thread is a taper or pipe thread and over tighening can split the head area that is threaded for the sender. Tightening is just a matter of feel using a small wrench. Make sure you wire brush the threads clean before re-sealing.
Yes just unplug the wire connector.

thanks i'll try that. i got a replacement one but it didn't fit anyways.
If it is leaking at the terminal end of the oil pressure switch, the only way you can repair that is replacement.

Well it is leaking out right where it screws into the engine, i don't know if that is the terminal end but i might try the permatex first unless you think i should just replace it.
The terminal end is where the connector plugs into the switch. If it doesn't cost very much, replacing it will resolve for good, whether it is leaking form the threads or the switch itself.

If the replacement was a generic it could have been NPT, which will not fit into the BSP thread in the head. Be careful though, a prior owner may have re-threaded the BSP to NPT and if done incorrectly may be the reason it's leaking now. You need to determine what type of thread you have. Use of plumbing T-Tape may be your only option as you can do a number of wraps increase thread contact, but you still need the crrect thread combination.

Was the person that told you it was the oil pressure switch a mechanic? Did he or she inspect your car? If so and it is definately a oil pressure sender switch, unplug the wire, unscrew the old sender, install the new sender with thread sealer or teflon tape, plug wire back in.
There are a few areas on the upper end of the 4 cylinder engine that are prone to oil leaks and the oil pressure sender is not a common one unless its been messed with before.
