so how exactly do i wash this air filter?

So a "washable/reusable" cone filter came with my short RAM intake, I'm changing the oil today so I figure I may as well clean out the air filter.

Now by washable I assumed you just...what...threw it in the sink or sprayed it with the hose and added some soap? But I'm seeing all these "recharge" kits and people are saying you have to "oil" the filter yady yady what does all of that mean? Can I not simply wash it, let it dry, and stick it back on?

Am I missing something?

Thanks guys!

hmm

You need to have quite a few miles on your filter before you need to physically wash it. Just knock out any large particles and put it back in. If you do wash it the filter needs to be re-oiled. This is the main component of the recharge kits you see. K&N does not recommend washing until 25,000 miles or so have been put on it.

And when you choose to reoil it, make sure you don't overdo it.

I can't tell you from experience, but from what I read-- many people clog their MAF.

Alright, so I'll just blow it out with compressed air for awhile.

K, did my first oil change today on the Camry. That was fun. The oil filter's sort of in a stupid place, and I had to jack the car up to get to the drain bolt, but it was a fun experience.

I'll browse through some threads to see some other stuff to check when I change the oil, since I'll just be doing that now instead of taking it to the shop which checks all the belts and hoses and things. The car is probably due for a tuneup pretty soon...

But anyways, thanks guys for everything once again!

Good job on your first oil change too man!

It is so much nicer knowing all the work put into your car is done by YOU

If it's any kind of wire mesh with paper elements for your cone based filter and you wash it, make sure that you thoroughly dry it with a hair dryer or heat gun because it will rust.

just cleaned one of my weapon-r filters and put the 2nd one on

just washed with water upside-down (so the dirt goes OUT, not inwards) .... gotta buy some oil, oddly enough the K&N kit is cheaper from AutoZone than the Sceptre (autozone-brand) kit .... only problem is the spray oil is red, but on a black filter i think it'll be ok
