Question Another air bag light question

I disconnected my passenger side air bag to work on my AC evaporator. When I buckled everything back up (several days later and several starts and stops of the engine) the air bag light was on. I did a search and found: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1505

I followed the directions to clear the air bag trouble codes and alternately grounded out terminals Tc and AB of DLC2. After I held the last Tc ground for about 5 seconds the cruise control light started flashing constantly and the air bag light flashed a code of 54. I never was able to get the 50 m sec flashing cycle showing that the codes were cleared.

According to the manual this would be an error code for the passenger/center airbag squib. (What the heck is a squib?) However, the code was not generated by shorting Tc and E1 so I’m uncertain that it has the same meaning. Add to that, the flashing cruise control light in conjunction with the flashing code.

Can anyone shed any light onto this?

I was reviewing the troubleshooting procedure for the “P Squib” on page RS 132 but I got shot down immediately when they said to “Connect negative H terminal cable to battery, and wait at least 2 seconds”. What is the “negative H terminal cable”? Though part of the troubleshooting procedure is to clear the codes which puts me into a Catch 22 scenario right away…

Thanks,
Kep

I think you are reading (-) as H or the manual has been transposed as H.

The term 'squib', I believe Toyota use it to describe the circuit itself, which would detonate when elericity is applied.

Have you try to disconnect the Passenger front airbag module and reconnect it to see if the light will go out.

Good thought about disconnecting and reconnecting. I tried that but no joy.

Thanks for the input. After you mentioned a transposition error on the "H" I got to thinking that it might originally have been "( - )" like you said.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Why not continue with the original trouble tree?
