3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys i said on previous post that i'm giving my 99 Camry a face lift also putting in some tunes. I checked Cruthfield site and then compared all the Apine stuff i want to get for my car and the prices on Ebay were a lot cheaper. I'm thinking about going with ebay but i don't want to get stiffed with refurbished components. Let me know ur opinion guys.
It's hit or miss. I HATE paying too much...it irks me knowing that there's a better price to be had. A few years back I bought a Fosgate 500 amp on Ebay.....I knew it wouldn't have the factory backed warranty, but I took the gamble. It had a 710+ watt "birth certificate"....and it pounded flawlessly for a tad less than a year. But something happened during my move to Cali, and it blows fuses when ever power is hooked up. Of course RF won't touch it, and the seller could care less.
I have bought from Crutchfield before with great results, even though you pay more. Their customer service is outstanding. I once bought a 5 disc cs/dvd player, but it wouldn't play burned movies, they shipped me the one I needed before I even sent the old one back....it was quite painless.
It's really up to you....how much potential ass pain are you willing to endure? Or how much are you willing to pay above "bargain price" to get popper customer service?

Ebay is flooded with gray market and refurb equipment. It's a little bit of a gamble. If you go that way, go with a seller with a lot of all good feedback and stay away from some new guy that is selling his stuff cheap. You'll be glad in the long run.
Crutchfield is very reliable but not very cheap. Sometimes you get what you pay for in life.
crutchfield canada is GREAT! Fast shipping, fair prices. And if anything goes wrong, they'll be trying their best to help you out!
Ebay on the other hand... sure you can save money but the thing about ebay is there are soooo many listings that you gotta go through each one and read allll of the info and determine if its legit or not
What exactly do you want?
What i personally think of car audio is... its so $ brand new... you can get it for like 50% less used! and it does the same shit
Want to get all Alpine stuff Head unit speakers Amp etc... I rather get all the audio new rather then used. If i were to get used i might as well gamble with ebay.
There are many more online site, i just can't think of anymore right now.
These places may or may not be authorized dealers so that could affect the manufacturer's warranty. Those places may offer their own warranty that may or may not equal the manufacturer's and the warranty would depend on the existence of that web store in the near future.
Why not try your local dealer. Some dealers might be able to meet or beat an ebay price, depending on them. Some can beat the crutchfield price, and still be authorized. Also, i suggest demo'ing parts before purchasing. No offense to those giving suggestions, but some people have different tastes. But if you have to purchase online, crutchfield is authorized for everything they sell, and they throw in install parts if you need, like harness or dash kit, etc. Sonicelectronix and woofersetc are authorized on some of the parts they sell.

Also for brands
Alpine is best for headunits
Focal is for speakers
JL for subs
and i like rockford fosgate amps.
alpine is over rated and it isnt the best in my book..
x2 to go visit your local dealers.. shop around.. car audio isnt cheap.. i have more that what most people would wanna spend on mine and its just an entry level system compared to what is out there.. plus its good to know the owner of the shop..
plus if you buy brand new without any hook up, you gonna get what you pay for..
