3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Any loctite, permatex, kleenflo, etc RTV gasket maker for that.
look at cure times, or in service times, the more expensive product will be serviceable in like 5 min. some others require 24 hours or overnight before it is put back in service.

BUT...have used the toyota stuff and also from talking to friends who are toyota mechanics....the toyota stuff really can't be beat. It costs about twice as much, but $15-20 to make sure that your oil pan never leaks again is worth if you ask me.

I checked out the RTV silicone sealants, heck there's a ton out there...blue, red, RTV, etc., etc...might as well get the Toyota one....where do we get our Toyota parts cheap?
Q: My 97 Camry 4 Cyl oil pan gasket was LEAKING. I got underneath and CLEARLY the bolts were loose which I carefully hand tightened o a reasonable degree - no torque wrench. This was a cork seal, was done like 2-3 years ago, is this normal to have to RE-TIGHTEN gasket bolts?

I do not know how normal it is to have to tighten them up. Oil pan gasket replacement is periodic, whether they last for a year, 2 or 3, who knows. If it lasts for 2 years, I am happy, 3 would be good.
Hence I bought 2 tubes...of the Toyota recommended gasket maker.
