3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
16 year old girls with a is250 should not drive. my camry is messed up!!!
so im on 101-s and going to have some fun at great america for the halloween special event and im going 70mph on the freeway (65 limit) and about 15ft ahead of me is a is250 and seemed like she was going at about 75 then all of a sudden at pointblank, she breaks really hard and i try to avoid it so i change to my right lane while breaking (this is where i start overeacting) i turn to left again to try to become stable (i still held my break hard when i shouldnt have) but i start suerving. then i lose control and boom i hit a car on the side wit my front then boom i hear another hit and my car spins 180 degrees and i was facing the opposite direction of the freeway and the girl keeps driving and drives off. my front headlights are gone (hids still alive) while my left rear is gone (tail lights broken bumper poped way in, body cracked and everything). i call the cops yadiyadiyadada they come and tell me to exit off freeway and go to a nearby gas station. when i went there the other 2 cars came and 1 was a corolla the driver side door was seriously busted (cant open or close) and they had a baby in there, other car was a new accord. the guy came out with a wheelchair and i felt hella bad. cops said it was my fault because i was speeding and kept distance too close and wanted to joyride WHEN I WASNT. im pretty sure the corolla is totaled and the accord is about 8000 dollar damage.
how do i know the is250 driver was a girl? it was one of my girlfriend's friends. luckily i have full coverage on my insurance..just gotta call em in the morning
damn that sucks.. my buddy who i was hang out with.. texted me about it.. and that one thing i learned today.. going from sac to the east bay on I-80W, you got some stupid drivers who step on teh brake for no reasons and start a chain reactions that by the time it reaches you, you've came to a complete stop.. IMHO, its better to be followed then do the following (apply to a certain situations)...

Camry's presence in NASCAR doesn't mean you too can draft like Tony Stewart. You done fucked up following 15ft behind someone going in excess of 70 MPH or 100 ft per second. You jeopardized the safety of the occupants of the vehicle ahead and around you, as well as those of your own. I don't see how you can be upset at the woman due to your own stupidity and negligence.
Just be glad you didn't kill someone or injure anyone worse than you did.

I bet all the other policy holders will appreciate the incresase in their premiums paying for your driving habits.
Fact: "The car accidentdeath rate for teen male drivers and passengers is more than one and a half times female teen driver (19.4 killed per 100,000 male drivers compared with 11.1 killed per 100,000 female drivers."
So who shouldn't be driving?

What you are doing is tailgating . She did the EXACT same thing that I do when people tailgate me . If I can't see your headlights in my rear view mirror, beware, because you WILL be seeing my brake lights.

we all make mistakes. the only thing you did that caused this mess was 15 feet at such a high speed, but i doubt youll be doing that again. ive always tried to fallow the whole 2 second rule and its saved my ass numberous times.
unfortunatly its is your fualt according to the law as the cop says. sorry to hear man.
Well the thing is this:
1: the flow of traffic was faster than what i was going
2: the person in front of me said she thought the car in front of her wasnt moving and she couldnt tell
3: this was after a couple of seconds we changed lanes into fast lane
Speeding. / Tailgating. / Poor judgement. / Lack of skill and experience. / More lack of experience and skill. / Even more lack of experience and skill. / I rest my case.

+1
I love it when idiots are so blind that they can't see that THEY are the one at fault.
To the OP.
When driving, it is your responsibility to maintain a safe following distance. If the car in front brakes and YOU have to hit shit... it was NOT a safe distance.
Well the thing is this:

On 101? I find that hard to believe. If you said 280, I might believe you.

You were still following way to close. Doesn't matter if you just changed lanes or what other excuse you came up with. You shouldn't have been tailgating 15ft behind going 70 MPH. While your lane change may have been ok, you have no one to blame but yourself for putting yourself in a position where you couldn't stop or slow down to avoid this accident.

Why did you go into the fast lane if traffic was moving faster than the two of you?
BTW, who was in these cars? Your provisional driver's license and hers restricts you from the following activities unless a licensed 25 year old driver is present for the first 12 months you have the license:
1. Transport passengers under 20
2. Drive between 11pm and 5am
Given the other driver is 16, it would be impossible for her to have her license more than 12 months.

Being a Cali driver myself, I've gotta go with everyone else on this one; you really shouldn't be following someone that close; you're just asking to rear end them, which would be your fault for following too close.
